Went out to the shotgun range, for the first time in 2 years, today. shot a few rounds of skeet to try and get used to the "new to me" 870 i bought.
found out a few things, mainly that i'm WAY out of shape with regard to stamina and strength in the areas exercised by shotgunning. not surprising since i've not been lifting 8-10 pound objects to shoulder height and holding there, on anything resembling a regular basis. in close to 6-7 years now (the 4 rounds of SG per stage of CAS shooting don't put a patch on a round of skeet, and i haven't done THAT in near two years).
secondly that i WAS spoiled by all those AA featherlites i shot during my "CAS crazies". those 1-1/8oz field loads made me remeber the first time i ever shot a 12ga in my life,
the solution to teh above two things is the same, the solution touted here on an almost hourly basis, BA/UU/R.
lastly and the one that i want to put in front of "those who know more than I" is that during the course of my being coached by one of the resident "nice guy who knew more than me at least" types, the gentleman helping me asked, "so what kinda choke you have in that thing?" "Modified, the same one that comes in it from the factory", his reply was "well, that's going to make it harder for you to break em... I'd suggest switching to a Cylinder or Skeet, if i were you, that way your pattern will be a little larger and that'll reduce your frustation some."
well what do YOU guys think, am i making things hard on my self here? or is swapping out for a more open choke not going to help out much??
and IF swapping for less constriction will help which should i look to get and who from??? (remember Rem 870 so i know what "pattern" of choke tube to get)
thanks for your time and advice guys
P.S. only mildly related (through relating to guns that will be used for skeet, belonging to members of my household) anyone know if there is a Speed wrench made to fit 28ga Remchokes?? found out that a rem-choke wrench with two "nubs" filed off fits the tubes used in Khan shotguns.
