Back To Revolvers

When I have to really hide a sixgun.

I've only been carrying since 2010, but in that time I've been through 5 CCW guns (and lets not talk about holsters) that never made it more than one or two years each becuase I just didn't like them for one reason or another, both revolvers and subcompacts. But I've been carring my K6s for 3.5 years now and believe it's "the one". I had it out last friday practicing draws with a shot timer, and finished up with some slow fire comparing it to my Hi Power and full size P320. I was amazed I was able to match the hi-power at 7 and 10 yards with the Kimber. Groups were still larger than with the P320, but I shoot that gun very well for some reason.

I have the same gun, but with the exposed hammer.

Over the years I have been carrying revolvers either Rugar or S&W. Several years back I realized that between the rifles and handguns I was caliber crazy. I had handguns in 9mm, 40S&W, 38, 357, 22lr, 22Mag, 45colt, 44 mag, 380, and 32 .500 S&W mag calibers. I decided to downsize as I am 69 now. The only HG calibers I currently have are the 9mm, 40 S&W and .500 S&W. Also, out of many different rifle calibers I only have 22, 30/30, 45/70 and .500 S&W. My caliber sanity is now in check and every now and again I get the urge for a wheel gun.

Revolving pistols? Yes, of course! The GP100 in my avatar image is my favorite, though I am more likely, day to day, to carry a 2” S&W Model 64 or Ruger SP101. There are others, but this is not a “list all of your revolvers” thread. I do know my way around several auto-loading pistol systems, but my right hand is not what it once was, and a revolver does not require the firm grip and rigid wrist that some autos require, in order to function reliably. A revolver delivers five to eight shots that are almost certain to fire reliably. As long as my “primary” carry position is my right side, I am likely to tote a revolver as the “primary” handgun.

A “baby Glock“ can, of course, serve as a desirable emergency “reload,” if positioned for lefty access, for occasions such as walking through the Valley of the Shadow of Death. (Big Glocks, or, occasionally, a full-sized 1911 pistol, too.)

I have a S&W Model 69 .44 Mag as one of my ccw guns, I carry it as a fishing companion when up in the Sierras.

I doubt I will ever have an issue with a bear, but you never know.

Stay safe.

View attachment 1171773When I bid on this 10-7 with the Peruvian crest on it I planned to carry it too but it's so darn pretty I'd rather scratch up the SP101. Too bad because it shoots so accurately for a snub and 6 rounds vs 5.
Sounds like a good reason to find a second one that is already scratched up, or a stainless 64. That is kind of what I did in a 3" K-frame. My 65LS is my longest owned gun (not oldest, but the one I've had the longest), it has some sentimental value to me now, and it is cosmetically near perfect. I just couldn't carry it, but IMO a 3" K-frame is one of the greatest carry guns ever made. So, I eventually went and bought a new production 2.75" S&W 66 to actually carry.

I agree with everything you said and that's why my safe is full. They all get shot but only a few get carried.

I took you advice and bought a 70+ year old well worn pre Model 10 2" yesterday. It came pre scratched. I'm typing this from the dog house.😀

And it is still a great looking gun. There is just something about a classic blued revolver with well earned holster wear. I need to find a finish worn but mechanically solid M10 soon.

I was required to carry a Glock as a duty weapon for 19.5 years and a Sig P320 for the last 6 months of my career before retiring in 2018. The Glock 23 gen 2 was my favorite out of the 22 gen 2 & 3, 23 gen 2 & 3 and the P320 (hated that gun). However, I kept a S&W model 60 from the early 80's on my ankle for many years.

Since I have retired, I have switched almost exclusively to revolvers. I tried the Diamondback Gen 4 9mm but didn't feel comfortable with its reliability. The P320 I was given at retirement by my agency was sold quickly and replaced with a Glock 23 gen 2 like I carried as a detective. That stayed in the truck until I sold my truck and switched back to my old Jeep YJ Wrangler.

I had some Charter Arms 38's, and a S&W 3" model 36. Those left the fold and I settled for a 2" stainless 856 as a pocket gun. Sometimes I wish I had the ultralight version, and may get one someday. In the fall and winter, I carry my custom 3" model 10-8 in a homemade holster on my belt. Feels great. I work on our church security team, and carry it during service, with the 856 as a NY reload in my pocket. My speed-strips and speed loader interchanges between the two guns too.

I used the Glock this year to qualify for my LEOSA, but the previous years were a 38.
