I just want to let you know that you are living the American dream, that is all

Evil,

Saddam and Mussolini or going to Africa to hunt?:D:D

the search is on, high and low, for a good .375H&H bolt gun. The consensus seems to be a controlled feed action (e.g., pre-'64 model 70), with preferably a good sear safety. I'm thinking between 20-23inches for a barrel. Stainless action and barrel. Though I'm a sucker for wood stocks, if I'm going to use this rifle from everything and in every elevation from elk to the Africa plains, synthetic or laminate seems the way to go.
Don't overlook the Ruger No. 1 tropical: available in .375 H&H, stainless, laminate stock, for ~ $1,000. The shorter action will allow you to have a longer barrel for the same overall length of a similar bolt action. And reliability and accuracy will be at least as good as most any bolt rifles.

Of course, if you'll be hunting dangerous game, you'll want a professional hunter backing you up. But likely that would also be true if you were using a bolt action.
