Friday I travelled to nearly West By God Virginia, about two and a half hours from my home in Fairfax County (close to Washington, DC) to seek the wiley Whitetail. All day Saturday (and in Virginia, there's no hunting on Sunday - I guess you're supposed to play golf) I saw no deer of any kind, no no other animals at all, except one sparrow. (There may have been one fish, when I took a short, impromptu swim (nearly) crosssing a creek, but I can't be sure.)
I got home just in time to watch a doe trying to decide which way to run away from an eight-pointer in my backyard. Oh, BTW, no hunting in my area. It's a shame I can't be trusted with firearms here, since Fairfax County and the Parks do pay lawmen overtime every couple of years to go deer shooting (not "hunting") at night. OTOH, cars here do seem to trim the numbers pretty well, abeit using a BMW as a deer bullet costs more than most premium ammuntion.
