so I went looking for .22lr at wally world and of course the 3 local ones are out... I asked the clerk to check the computer to see if any other local stores have any... and one store had 2 boxes about 15 miles away... I was halfway tempted to make the drive... while waiting I made a smart ass comment about how during the last run there was absolutly zero .380 and they still had some... the clerk told me that he can't place any orders for ammo anymore as they won't ship it... only wally world HQ decides on how much ammo we should have... and that they have stopped shipping 9mm, .22, .223 and 7.62 x 39... my natural reply... they won't ship .22 but you have a good amount of 12 guage... that makes sense... he said that 12 guage is next on their list of stuff they won't ship... WHAT? I've known this clerk for years... been buying ammo for years from my local wally world... I'm on backorder waiting lists and notification for back in stock for online ammo dealers so I won't have to let wally world decide how much ammo we get to have... not good. :banghead:

So the good news is the small gun shop is finally attracting more business. As much as I hate to see the discounters cave in, I feel good about the shops I visit. Not sure if I have ever bought ammo any other place except online or a small dealer.

The sales clerk is full of it. The DCs have NOTHING to ship; they're out just like everybody else.

Manual orders are turned off because of the above reason. This happens all the time with high demand items with extremely limited supply, it also serves to keep associates like me from ordering 1000 boxes and no one else in a tri-state region getting any. As shipments arrive from vendors, the ammo is divided up, using previous sales as a guide, and shipped out. An e-mail was sent out yesterday stating NOTHING has been pulled or held back and Wal-Mart is waiting for resupply from their vendors. There are also no official limits directed from HO at this time.

Now from my experience you can most likely blame your LGS for shortages at most local Wal-Marts, usually every morning someone from one of the shops comes in and attempts to buy everything that came in the previous night; to sell to you at 2-3x the price. Make sure you support them;) There's also the occasional ammo hoarder too.

They won't ship it because they don't have it. They divide it out to all their stores as they get it. My wal-mart got 9mm this morning with 38 and 40s, the counter guy said it was gone in 20 minutes.

Sounds like you need to introduce yourself to the reloading world...

Dont worry, it will come to pass. Just look for .22 lrs as it has more uses, from plinking , practice to hunting small game. It also cost less. If you find them, grab and dont let go.

We already have a thread running on this and it is explained that WalMart doesn't allow ordering when they don't have product in the warehouse to send out. They're in the same boat every other ammunition dealer is in.
