For the past couple of months I've been working to get a middle-age couple at least "consciously competent" with their new handguns. They moved to DFW from New Jersey and could not believe being able to walk into a gun store, buy a handgun and walk out with it 30 minutes later.

They were out again last Saturday for a private lesson during which we cleaned 2 semi-automatics and 2 revolvers, using a combination of their componets from a "kit" they had purchased at a gun store and other things I keep around all the time. The lady sent me an e-mail this morning asking where was the best place to purchase individual items we had used, such as Hoppes, Rem Oil and brake parts cleaner. I replied that "Wally World" should have them all.

I kid you not, her subsequent e-mail reply: " I just tried looking up Wally World on the internet. It's a gay PORN site! Oopps! "

I've just about decided they must not have not been in Texas long enough - or I've been here way too long! :uhoh:

Do they belong south of the Mason-Dixon line if they dont know what a Wally World is, or that guns can be bought over the counter with just a form and a phonecall? I thought those were two of the questions on the admission exam.

Wally World is what we called them in Indiana too. Not just a Southern thing. Wow.

I suppose it's all good as long as their NJ money spends the same as the rest. :D

:D

That's not as bad as when I moved from NJ to TN and dad bought his hardware store.

A customer came in and wanted a particular item. I had no idea what it was.

"What's a thunder mug?"

Runt...

the older I get , the more I realize I don't know

I've not heard the term thunder mug , hardware store--guessing...big spitoon?...#3 washtub? ...I give up.

I did a quick search, refers to a B24, also a porn site.

Lot of truth about a people separated by a common language

The original port-a-potty, but a minor spelling revision of spitoon would work.... :D

Runt - No, SHE may be right about the porn thing. :D

' Made a similar error a few years ago when researching purchase of a new baseball pitching machine. It seems that my old memory told me that one of the major manufacturers of the things was "Jugs", so I typed in "www.****.com" and hit the shift key. Before anyone decides to investigate the above, let me just say that what appeared on the screen was much more related to BASKETBALLS! From at least 20' away, I heard The Wife scream "WHAT are you doing?"

So yea, Runt, I was definitely gonna take the NJ lady's word for it on "Wally World" search. (' Afraid I also taught The Wife to shoot. )

FWIW, I subsequently found the pitching machine people are at www.thejugscompany.com. :D

A similar thing happened to me on TFL a few years ago. I've forgotten the context, but I jokingly mentioned that something was available at "w ww.yadayadayada.com". I thought that would be a non-existent site. Wrong! It not only existed, it was like your jugs.com.

(Don't bother you perverted members, you! It no longer responds; you just get a generic choice type site.)

THR recently picked up a new member, Horsesense. His first post over in the "Hunting" section. Referred to a "skunk" as "polecat".

In thinking about it, it was the first time I'd heard "polecat" in years - since my Grandfather died years ago. ' Can't say I ever recall him calling 'em anything except a "polecat". Yea, we are slowly but surely getting "cityfied", huh?

Another one on the "polecat" line is...

... woodpu**y!

You figure out what the ** is and win the cupie doll!

Yeah, traveling around the country and attending schools out-of-state adds considerably to one's colloquial education of the local vernacular.

Heh, heh, heh... Wally World and PRNJ citizens,... ROTFLMAO!!!

(Should have never dropped the da%n typing class though)
