Badger Guns in Milwaukee:“#1 crime-gun dealer”, again!

Turns out my suspicions were correct.

Mayor Barrett asked that the legislature convene a special session to pass a law requiring mandatory background checks for private transfers in Milwaukee.

Doesn't look like it's going to happen, though. The legislature is out of session and won't be back until January, when (fingers crossed) Doyle will be out of office.

It seems to me that the outlying competitors are more reasonably priced to the average Joe walking in off the street.
That would be outside of the Greater Milwaukee area then, because The Shooter's Shop costs more and Fletchers can be even more for used, maybe same for new. I was in the area recently, so my memory is pretty clear.
I can't speak for other cities, but which city in SE Wisconsin has a lot of gun shops?

Delavan, Whitewater, and Lomira... each one has said at one time or another; "you tell me what you think is a fair price". I went and did my homework, came up with a price based on research, added what I consider a fair margin (depends how much leg work I have to do) generally 15 to 22% (GM), then submitted my offer. Only once was my offer turned down. My offers were less than original asking, but I am sure I left some on the table too on others.

Shooter's is high. But they've done the exact same thing for me.

In my case, it was an AK clone they had tagged at $499  .

I took the Q1 wholesale price of $299, from the likes of AIM and SOG, added $10 for UPS ground shipping. And put another $50 for thier markup and FFL X-fer if I mail-ordered it directly. (Thier FFL X-fer is $50, as is Badger and Fletcher, but there are a few kitchen table FFL's left where you can get it for $25...)

I offered them $360, out the door, and they asked the mgr. on duty and he said okay...

They're actualy still quite far from the Milwaukee's "North Side" which is the largest slum/crime area.
Tell me about it, I recently made the mistake of purchasing a home on N. 70th!:banghead:

:uhoh: Oops.

How "North" on 70th?

Back when we were house-hunting in '99, that row of Mansions on Sherman Blvd. were going cheap, we're talking under $100,000 for 5000sqft, 7 bedrooms, 5 bath, maid quarters/Mother-in-law suite etc.

It actualy has been a minor "yuppie resurgance" on that block, however, that's for DINK's with good insurance, lots of money for security systems and window bars, and no kids.

Fortunately, we didn't bite.

And to think I'm peeved about the quality of the relatively decent central West Allis neighborhood I'm living in.

Try between Silver Spring and Thurston. Just look for the crack house two doors down....Can't miss it:D

Oh man.

Yeah, I can see how that area looks nice enough to sucker you in. Looks a bit like 'Tosa, but the sticker price is "Milwaukee". Just like that Hyundai that looks like a Jag...

It's not until you spend a week there you realize what you've gotten into.

What is it they say on those "Something bad happened to XYZ" thread?

Oh yeah.

"Prayers Sent". :p

Yeah, goes to show that the, "You get more home for the dollar" line of reasoning doesn't always pay off. Oh the wonderful things I learned my first week here. Like the gent we bought the place from getting robbed in the garage. Or my 83 year old neighbor having a piece pulled on him by the residents of the crack house. Funny how all this comes out after the sale goes through:banghead:

.45Guy, my wife and I bought a duplex on 55th and Burleigh in 1983 for $62,500. We sold it in 1992 for $61,500. :(

By 1992 the crime was so bad that almost everybody--white, black, hispanic, jewish--moved out of the neighborhood the same summer.

We actually had full-auto fire one night, when some rival drug wholesalers shot up the Jaguar owned by two drug wholesalers who lived and operated their business a few doors down. (I got back at them after that by dousing their new Cadillac with heavy-duty paint stripper).

A gang of punks started robbing people at gunpoint in the evening when folks were putting their cars in the garage in the alley. I would stand with a shotgun next to the garage when my wife had to come home late. A Spas 12 folder is pretty formidable-looking, even to seasoned punks.

It's not too late for you to move, you know. ;)

Strings, sorry to lump you in with the SE Wisconsin, Metro Milwaukee guys. Unfortunately as I see it, anywhere that the local TV is based at, I consider that the Metro area. Kinda of like associating San Bernadino with LA, even though it is 70 miles away. Wisconsin is quartered by the DNR as such:
NW Wisconsin- north of 10, west of 51; NE Wisconsin-north of 10, east of 51; SW Wisconsin -south of 10 and west of 51....I'm sure you get the picture.

I feel for you man, better buy the spot up in Forest county before the urbanites run you over!
