Just let me know if the poll doesn't speak for itself...

I coulda/shoulda made it multiple choice because I'm sure some of you have put more holes in your cans, and in more ways than can be imagined.

I make silencers on ATF form 1's. I have had baffles strikes on my 22lr, 9mm and 510 whisper cans. As I cannot replace parts without paying another $200 tax, I repaired the baffles and end caps instead.

My 22lr and 9mm cans are muzzle mounted on threads. They loosened up while firing and I noticed that I was missing the target. I had forgotten to check the can tight after each magazine. Screwing the can back on tight fixed the baffle strike problem. I used a hammer to bend the end cap back into shape and put the baffles on my lathe to ensure the hole was round and in the center.

My 510 whisper can is two point mounted. I think some of the gas checks on my cast 950 grain bullets came off and dented the last two baffles and end cap. I fixed the parts as above and now I usually shoot jacketed bullets through it.

You should allow multiple answers on your poll.

In the "other" category:

I was in France at a friend's place, shooting a .22lr bolt rifle with a Unique (the manufacturer) suppressor that had moving parts - baffles between springs - and apparently required more cleaning than it received. The powder residue caught up on a baffle edge, turning the baffle off axis, and the next shot hit the baffle...and the baffles and springs were all over the lawn. There was a nice raised section of the aluminum tube as well.

This being in France, my host scoffed, said it was a cheap one, and we proceeded to have wine with lunch. It was the only suppressor i've seen with moving internal parts...perhaps this is why... over there suppressors are designed to a different criteria, cheap mainly, without a large (unjustified) tax turning what would normally be a wear item into an heirloom.

I sent a round through my brand new AAC SDN-6 for reasons that can only be attributed to a loosening from the qd mount or a bizarre bullet issue. It clipped the last baffle barely, but ripped 1/4" chunk outward on the end cap. Since the end cap is part of the serial numbered sleeve, there is no repairing it. I'll just have to live with it. Damage is minor, but still sucks. I cranked it down as tight and solid as can be, and after about 15 shots it blew off of the mount. The qd mount was tight as can be. I still don't get how it happened.

I've killed a number of cans with strikes. Most of the time the cause of the strike was indeterminant. I'm not sure how you'd identify that a strike was caused by the ammo for instance.

Another one was almost definintely a mount issue (thread on, over the barrel type can)

No baffle strikes to report so far (knock on wood).

I've fired about five thousand rounds through my three cans (22/9/45).

The Poll does not allow you to pick more then 1, so for me:

I've had, or directly know of, a strike with a thread-on, caused by loose threads.

I've had, ", a strike with a thread-on, caused by an issue w/the threads/barrel shoulder/alignment.

I've had, or directly know of, a strike with a thread-on, caused by ammo.

I'm going to have to claim a "senior moment" here, because I don't recall one. It could have happened though in all these years.

I've seen a can get launched down range and it was surprising. Didn't hurt the rifle at all. (.338)

Near 3000 rounds through my ASE Utra rimfire suppressor, no issues. It gets used mainly on my Thompson Center R55 Benchmark which I had threaded for this suppressor. Also gets used on my SIG 522 occassionally.
After every three visits to the range I clean the can and check all the baffles (it has 18).

LMAO! I just pictured that. ;)

No Issues after 4,000 Rounds

My one and only can - I'm waiting on approval for the 2nd one - is a YHM phantom that I use on my .308, multiple scratch built AR's and a couple of AK's. I haven't had any strikes or any other issues after 4 or 5 thousand rounds. The QD mount seems to be solid.

I torque it down hard by hand and I've not found it to loosen up yet. Having said that, I don't usually shoot more than 150 or 200 rounds unless I have my SlideFire stock on the .308/5.56's. Then, maybe I shoot 300 rounds or so until I'm either broke or the smile has faded from my face.
