This test was conducted at low muzzle velocity to simulate the effects of a pellet impact with a pest animal at a range typically encountered during pest control operations.

Projectile : 177 caliber airgun Hyper-Velocity Type I pellet
Airgun : Spring-piston powered 177 caliber airgun
Block calibration : 8.0cm @ 580 ft/sec and 38.0 degrees Fahrenheit
Single shot fired at a bare gelatin block. Pellet impacted the block at 465 ft/sec and penetrated to a maximum depth of 2.4". The penetrator core yawed at some time around 0.8" depth and was recovered base-first at the end of the penetration event. The plastic sabot discarded from the penetrator core some time after impact with the block and penetrated to 0.9" depth.
Both the penetrator core and the plastic sabot were recovered without significant deformation at 5.8gr weight.
