Good call on the vice, a 410 is bad enough. I can't imagine hating ones self enough to touch that thing off. There has got to be perminant nerve damage!
I once fired six consecutive rounds of 45-70 out of a Freedom Arms BFR revolver at the range I once worked at. I can't even imagine what a derringer would be like!
It was difficult to aim the gun, being that I couldn't see the sights through the vise. In all seriousness, I did try to get Ransom to make up some grip adapters for the Derringer, but apparently they were not interested. Having this in a machine rest would have permitted the desired 10' distance.
... I shot a .44 Magnum Derringer yesterday... look for those results in the coming few hours.
Wow!!! I can't imagine trying to shoot one of those without a vise. My dad had one in .357mag and sold it after shooting it once (and after the blood vessels in his hand healed up).
Next time let the owner shoot it. You can measure the penetration up his forearm as well
I'm amazed that it expanded. Too bad you couldn't get the chronoed velocity. Calculated velocity for 4.33% fragmentation, 0.614" average diameter, 26.3" penetration, is 1425 fps.
1425 ft/sec sounds like a reasonable velocity to me. In my experience with Derringers, there was a drop off in velocity similar to that, especially with the .223rem model that I tested.
