I was wondering how Ballistic Tip bullets or V-Max bullets ( in 7.62X39 ) would be for home defense? Would this type of bullet still penetrate lots of sheet rock walls or break up after the first wall it hit? Would these be good for inside?

The V-Max will break up before the Ballistic Tip IF the BT isn`t a varmint bullet. The hunting BTs are quite a bit tougher then the varmint. They both though will penitrate sheet rock. I doubt either would have any trouble going through multiple layers of it. Whether or not they will exit your home and harm someone in another I can`t really say, but I believe someone in the next room wont be safe.

No rifle or rifle bullet should be used for home defence unless there is no other option. Rifles and their bullets are designed for penitration and maximum damage. At the velocites, even the lower speeds, they have the ability to penitrate several houses in ideal conditions. Shotguns (if you have room to swing one in the home. Hall ways are a real problem) or handguns are the only defence weapons to even concider...Wielding a rifle in a home would be more disastrous to the home owner then to the intruder. I have two .38 specials and warm loads for home defence. And all in this household are trained in their use.

ANY round that is suitable for self defence will penetrate a lot of sheetrock. A pellet gun will go through one wall. (two sheets) The only thing that one wall of sheetrock will possible stop is bird shot, and even that will go through if you are close to the wall. Please do not take that as a recomendation of bird shot for SD. Walls are just to flimsy to count on them for a reliable backstop.

Search for the Box Of Truth for some examples.
