Does anyone know how to make ballistics gel for testing. I think it would make a neat conversation piece for my office.
I have no idea, but I'm buying stock in the Knox Gelatin Company right now... thats gonna be a lot of jello! What dimensions would you need to test .30-06 or .308 without loosing any fragments?

What about dimensions forhandgun rds?
The reason I ask is because my younger brother has to participate in his Jr. High science fair, and he asked me to help him out a bit...I haven't read all of the specifics yet, but I was thinking about testing the ballistics of different bullet weights or HP, SP, etc.
What rounds are you looking at?Most rifle rounds, especially supersonic, will penetrate over five feet of ballistic gelatin with enough force to punch a hole in a 1/8" steel containing wall. If you want to test rifle rounds, start looking at layers of pine boards. You can find many comparisons of other ammunitions fired through stacks of 1" boards; it was the standard test for penetration before ballistics gel was developed. I'm not sure you're going to be practically able to make enough Jello to stop a rifle bullet and contain any and all fragments.
