Okay, I offically give up on Florida. First, the ballot thing... now, your criminals can't even figure out that if you want to rob a bank where the tellers need to open the door for you, then you shouldn't show up in a ski mask totting a gun first.

I mean, really, watch some cable TV guys: every Hollywood bank robber will tell you to "case the joint."

Suspects in botched bank robbery charged in another bank heist

Two men involved in a foiled bank robbery attempt in Ormond Beach were linked and charged in a bank heist that occurred last week in Ormond by the Sea, sheriff's officials said today.

Troy Miller, 28 and Willie Upson, 31, both of Orlando, have been charged with armed robbery and armed kidnapping for the Feb. 26 hit at a Harbor Federal Savings Bank.

The suspects and a third man, 21-year-old Andrew Jackson, also of Orlando, were involved in a failed bank robbery attempt Monday at the Gateway Bank on Nova Road in Ormond Beach, police there said. The suspects could not enter the bank because the doors, which were locked, are opened electronically by employees, police said.

The three men took off in a stolen automobile, but minutes later, they abandoned that car and jumped into a green SUV and headed north on State Road A1A.

The green SUV from Monday's incident was the same getaway vehicle that was used last week after the Harbor Federal Savings robbery, sheriff's officials said.

In Monday's ordeal, Miller, Upson and Jackson were chased by sheriff's deputies and finally caught in Flagler Beach. There are being held in the Flagler County Inmate Facility.

In addition to the robbery and kidnapping charges, Miller is also charged with obstructing an officer without violence. Miller meanwhile is also charged with burglary, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, driving without a license and obstructing an officer without violence. Flagler Beach police charged Upson with burglary because when he was captured Monday, he was hiding inside a beachfront restaurant.

The third suspect, Jackson, is charged with obstructing an officer without violence.

This one is more impressive. :)

Flaming torch used in daylight bank heist

A man swinging a flaming torch robbed a Fairview bank Monday afternoon, threatening to set fire to people and burn down the building if his demands weren't met.

Late Monday, law enforcement authorities were still looking for the masked robber who made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The man stormed the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union branch at Seventh Avenue and Juneau Street at about 3:45 p.m., waving the homemade torch -- a T-shirt tied around a yard-long metal pole and set afire, said FBI spokesman Eric Gonzalez. He yelled at customers to get down on the floor.

Customers scattered and were able to flee the bank. The robber threatened to burn the teller before the teller handed over the money, Gonzalez said, and then fled on foot.

Following FBI policy, Gonzalez would not say how much the robber got.

Police later recovered the still smoldering T-shirt outside the bank, they said. Officers combed surrounding areas looking for the robber for hours after the incident, police said.

Gonzalez said that in his more than 15 years at the FBI in Anchorage he could not recall a robber using a torch as a weapon.

This is the first bank robbery in Alaska in 2007. Of the 17 bank robberies in 2006, all but one were solved.

The robber is described as a black man in his late 20s, about 5-foot, 7-inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a mask covering part of his face, a tan Carhartt jacket and grey sweatshirt, the FBI said. Anyone with information about him is asked to call police at 786-8900.

Sounds like a good reason to mandate "Concealed Carry Fire Extinguishers" ...

We must call Mrs. Brady at once... Clearly some reasonable and senseable legislation is needed to close the "burning t-shirt loophole." :D

:D Oh man, guys, stop.. please! :D

I can't stop laughing!

Really though, why didn't someone just grab a fire extinguisher and disarm the man? If someone came at me with a flaming stick that was 5' 7", there would be hell to pay, whether I'm carrying or not.

Well now that I think about it, he may have had a piece on him that was concealed. And he was nuts after all. I mean who robs a bank with a flaming tshirt?

Well, even if the flame is extinguished, he still has a 3' club. If he knows what he's doing, he can put a real hurtin' on ya.

I'd say that was more of a "Bank Robbery Goes Good". I can't believe you're lamenting that criminals are idiots :p

Most criminals ARE dumb though. To paraphrase LawDog; "Where's my criminal mastermind, where's my Moriarty?"

Maybe it's just me but the guy with a smile in his mug shot pisses me off .. I hate when criminals are proud of the crimes they commit

Actualy I remember asking about why mug shots usualy look the way they do. It turns out it is often an unofficial policy to not take a picture until the person makes a serious face. These are criminals after all, and when you have to show the face of one of them the last thing you want is a smiling cheery looking friendly guy. You want a cold blooded murderous stare that causes the public to dislike them right away.

So from what I understand they usualy won't take the mugshot until the person stops smiling. Maybe this guy would not stop smiling and they got tired of waiting?

I wasn't smiling in any of my mug shots. Guess I wasn't feeling too jovial...:uhoh:

Are they sure this isn't the torch robber:

"I'm gonna burn the building down"

Either that or he was on his way to Frankenstein's mansion with the rest of the mob and needed to stop and get some cash.
