Finally --- got my barrel, the 9mm conversion for my Sig 229, originally in 40 S&W.
Wow! What a slick little piece of stainless steel!
Will I keep the 40? Sure. But, after shooting the 9 at the range last week, well, it makes the 229 that much more impressive --- on paper targets, at least.
Maybe 9mm is "the new target round." It sure is cheaper, kinder to the hand, and a lot more accurate.
I wonder if the accuracy issue is caliber-based, or "battered-hand" based? I've shot the 40 off a rest, and it hits OK, but not like the 9, even off-hand.
As for the barrel itself --- it took about three passes with a fine stone to get it to drop in perfectly (tiny bit of drag at the back). Judging from its first time out, it's probably match grade in the right hands. Very fine.
