Got this off Barnes website ... Lots of different powders to try. I'd prefer to find someone that has tried one or two powders give me an assessment. Otherwise I'm gonna be buying a lot of powder!

Anyone tried any of these? As usual per Barnes TSX bullets I need to push them as fast as possible (deer hunting).

Yes I did a search on this website and found several threads on the matter but nobody with results for a specific powder.

If you want speed,CFE223 is a great choice.I have 3 223's,and they all like it reasonably well, but my 26" barrel bolt gun likes Varget for accuracy.748 may work ok,but I haven't had the best results with it.Not much help, but if your rifle likes CFE,that's the best choice in my experience.

Good info, thanks for that. I'm going to be loading for an AR15 with a 16" barrel, it won't be a competition shooter by any means but I'd like to get it fast enough and accurate enough to pop a deer within 75 yards.

CFE 223 is what I use to load the 62gr TSX - I get 3075fps from a 20" bbl (0.3gr under max), but the velocity falls way down to 2850 from my 16" bbl rifle. Also know that it is very temperature sensitive. That said, it is accurate and I do plan to use it as it really does improve velocity especially with longer barrels. I was even able to get 2900fps from my 24" 308 with 150gr bullets while staying 0.6gr under max Hornady data.

I wonder if H335 will be a better choice for the 16"bbl. i may try H335 soon.

I just had a friend offer me a bottle of H335 for free and I've got a bottle of Varget I no longer use for 308. I may buy some CFE223 also ...

Settled in on H335, CFE223, and H4395 based on info from here and another forum. I should be able to find a good deer hunting load from that set

This is a long term project ... For the past four deer seasons I have bought a new rifle, worked up a load for it, and hunted with it all season. This year I'm using a Steyr 243, next year I may try this DPMS AR15 if I find a load that I like. I'll post up my results ...

Thanks guys
