Has anyone used one of these things, the big rubber donut that you slide up on to your brl, do they work?

I gave one to my future (we think) brother in law. Does that tell you anything?:D

They work great...... you see, you set them up at 2 or 3 hundred yards and see if you can hit them!

That's about the only thing they are good for!

Don't waist your time and money!

I've used one before. After a little fidgeting with the position, it took my groups from 2" to 1.5". Will it work for everybody? No. Does it work? Sometimes. They're worth fooling around with if you don't mind the goofy look, but they aren't a guaranteed group-shrinker.

Really depends on your setup, and how limp your barrel is.....mainly i'd say it should help with a very quick follow-up shot with a semi-auto. I have one on my 10/22, and it really helps when dumping the mag, when the gun is on a bipod...keeps everything going into the same hole on the paper. With the .22, recoil is not an issue, but barrel resonance is....

For a bolt action centerfire, i don't think it would be much help; but i've never tried it.

KevinR;

The device you're asking about is a very low-tech version of the Browing/Winchester B.O.S.S system. The BOSS can and does work, despite criticism concerning it's looks. But, the de-resonator is a waste of time & money methinks.

They're usless for the intended purpose of enhancing accuracy

They however are quite useful in the field as a bbl protector for leaning your rifle against trees or particularly fences (because of the ribs) for various reasons.

Strangely enough mine ruined my bag full of .22 ammo. I put in in there and forgot about it for about a year. During that time the deresonator had melted and covered my 22 ammo with sticky black goop

Like I said, if you can afford $20 to fool around with something that may or may not work, and looks plenty goofy, get after it. They do take some trial and error to get right, if they will work with your rifle and load at all.

I would say the main and best purpose for that piece of gear is to tactically liberate your money from your pocket, and to sell useless hunks of rubber.

its a low tech version of a barrel tunner. some rimfire bench rest shooters swear by them and others don't believe they work at all. i'd say you have a 50/50 chance of it slightly improving your groups after you move it up and down the barrel in .050 increments to find the sweet spot & you will have to repeat the process for every load

I don't know if they work or not but my rifle shoots .5" groups at 300 yards and it has one on it, and I don't think I'm moving it.
