For all you rifle reloaders out there. Does your choice in which powder to use in a particular gun factor in the barrel length? I'm ploanning on reloading for 30-06 and my rifle has a 22" barrel, is there an optimum powder to use in this application? I'm thinking IMR 4895 but perhaps a slightly faster burning powder would be better in this barrel length?

I'd like to know the answer too!

I'm a newbie reloader and want to load for different lengths of the same caliber, and notice the loads aren't the same depending on barrel length. Is there a formula? If I look at the loading data for a 24" barrel, what do I factor for a 16" one?

+1

The best performing powder (velocity) in a longer barrel will also be the best performing powder in a shorter barrel.

The only thing you can control by using faster powder is slightly less muzzle blast.

But you won't get the bullet going as fast.

Ok that's what I thought but it always pays to make sure you have a handle on this stuff.
