Bought a Barske Biometric Rifle Safe to stash my HD guns in the bedroom and keep the grandkids safe. It's definitely a RSC (as expected), it's a very small footprint (as expected), and it's only 66 lbs empty (also as expected). Reviews online are mixed, but here's my take.
Pros:
Pretty well made for what it is.
Will hold a 10-rd AR, a 12ga, and two handguns.
Conceals well in a closet.
The biometric lock works.
Good design.
It will keep the grandkids from the loaded guns.
Cons:
It's not a safe - it's partway from a storage cabinet to a "gun safe" RSC. A burglar with a hatchet could get in pretty quick.
The instructions are worse than poor - they are downright dangerous. If you follow them, your fingerprints will rapidly open the safe, but SO WILL ANYONE ELSE'S!!! You'll THINK you did it right - but it won't keep anyone (including grandkids) out.
Neutral:
It absolutely MUST be bolted to the wall behind it, as the weight of the door will tip it forward if empty. All RSC's should be secured to the wall, so that's a neutral to me.
After unpacking and installing it, I followed the instructions and it worked great. It opened EVERY time. That worried me, so I tried fingers that I hadn't programmed in and they all worked, too! I found a review alluding to a similar issue, with corrected programming instructions. I played with it a bit, and deviated slightly fron the reviewer's instructions, but mine now works properly.
If you own one of these that opens EVERY time, try a finger you didn't program. If it works, you are not setup properly. I'll be happy to share with interested parties, if any.
I'd buy another of these if I needed it. It will hold all the firepower I need handy, and keep the grandkids safe. If I'm away, the house guns will be in a more secure container.
