Get to your local Bass Pro Shops! Quick!

They have marked down the price on some Smith&Wesson Classic Models that are not selling very fast I was told today.

The blue and nickel Model 1917 had already sold out, but they had the Case Hardened Model marked down from $1049 to $649!

I saw those at my local BP but passed them up. Some of the folks here on THR suggested that I just get an older version for about the same money. I'm a little irritated with BP at the moment, so, they will not be getting any money from me for a little while.

I have seen quite a few of the "Classics" running $560 to $600 at various dealers. i am guessing the factory is doing something to support dealers still holding these - rebates, credits, etc. (just a guess - too many dealers are offering deals now for it to be a coincidence). Apparently it is "blow out time" and the laggards are selling. I just can't help but think if they'd

1) Removed the lock
2) Purchased grips that fit the frames

They'd have sold all of them over $900 each. I guess it's penny-wise, pound foolish.

Thanks for the headsup and not to beat a dead horse but I refuse to buy any S&W with the infernal internal lock. Unless it's one heckuva deal and I don't consider this one of those deals. :)

I've already got two S&W M1917s, one all original, with its original GI holster, and the other one a customized model with a barrel cut down to 3 1/2 inches to make it a carry gun (it was already that way when I bought it).

I've never had any interest in the current M1917. In the first place it's got that damnable internal lock, and in the second, I don't see any reason to spend my money on a not very authentic reproduction.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I called the closest Bass Pro to me and they had one, in blue! Fantastic, I call and ask "will you hold it and do an FFL transfer because I am out of state?" Guy from Bass Pro answers over the phone, no problem, come and get it. I get there and find out it is actually corporate policy to not do FFL transfers out of state on handguns. So I wasted almost 4 hours of my day trying to buy a handgun they will not sell me! What ticked me off is I specifically asked this question on the phone before I drove so far to the store.

No new Smith for me. I hope someone else enjoys it as much as I would have.

That's one pretty gun.

I can understand why they'd have a hard time selling them for $1050, just because the people who appreciate that sort of revolver also are interested in collectible originals -- and for over a grand, have a number of choices.

However, for the reduced prices, they're REALLY nice.

I'm a sucker for CCH, polished blue and nice walnut.

I wonder if they will honor the 10 percent off on ammo if it ever gets there.

Hey, mine is shipping to my dealer tomorrow! I wrote a letter to the president of Bass Pro, and one week later the guy that said no way no how will he ship a handgun to my FFL holder is wanting to know my credit card number so that he can ship it to my FFL holder! I cannot wait to get this handgun in my hot little hands!
