I hope this isn't too OT, but I found this really interesting.

I just started playing the computer game, Battlefield Vietnam. The VC players can use a MN 91/30 Sniper rifle, and a type 59 SKS. The guns are pretty realistic to my layman's eyes, and the reloading animations are neat. The SKS uses a stripper clip to reload, and it looks pretty much like the real thing (bear in mind I have never shot an SKS).

Anyway, I just thought some of the C&R aficionadoes on this board might be interested.

Cheers.

Gaming for Crufflers

In Call of Duty, you get to use a Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 (incorrectly shown with a bent bolt handle), a M1891/30 with a scope, the KAR-98K Mauser (with and without scope), the No. 4 Mk. 1 Enfield, and the M1903A4 sniper Springfield.

Also, other vintage guns include the Luger, the Bren, the BAR, the PPsh-41, and the M1 Thompson.

the weapons in BF:V are great .. but it still bugs me that all the actions are on the wrong side of the gun (except for the M-60) ..

saw an interview and they said they did it because it gives a sense of realism by actually seeing the action, and shells ejecting .. and that the number of people who actually notice/care are too small a number to matter ..

great game though .. just need to iron out the bugs ..

It irks me something fierce when they put the actions around the wrong way just so retards aren't confused by the lack of shells ejecting. They'd rather the shells eject right into your face.

Other than that, the animations in this game seem to be just about perfect as far as reloading goes.

Absolutely fantastic game.

The game comes with a "modding" toolkit that includes a couple 3d model import/export tools. Maybe someone will be industrius enough to fix the models. I thought something looked funny on the AKs but just couldn't put my finger on it. That big silver chunk on the left side just looked out of place.

I'm working on modding the aircraft to have more realistic weapon capabilities. I'm sure it will kill game ballence or slow down gameplay but I'm going to give it a shot.

In particular the way they did rocket pods really gets on my nerves.
UH-1 gunship: Shown with grenade launcher, 2 minis and two 7 tube 2.75" FFAR pods.

Pilot controls the FFARs but only gets 2 shots at a time and has to wait for a reload and gets a total of 20 rockets. :scrutiny:

I'm planning on changing it to 14 shots with a total of 28 rockets and a REALLY long reload timer. Just long enough that if you're close to a base that it might be worth running back to reload on the pad than waiting for the timer.

Good game, I like it. Quite a bit of fun. Definately an improvement over BF:1942 which is still a great game and resonably priced. I found it for $35 at Best Buy and have seen it elsewhere for $40.

If I had the talent or motivation to mod the game, I'd probably try and mod in a 'pilot' class, who doesn't wear 500 pounds of webbing and pack, and carries only a pistol or sawn-off shotgun or something.

This would stop giant M60 toting soldiers flying helicopters around and would mean less helicopter camping.
