BBC article on "losing the fight on knife crime"

I traveled about England 11 years ago and was struck by all the knife killings. Every day there were reports in the newspaper of someone being stabbed to death.

Wait a minute, I thought by banning guns all of their citizens became angels for it was those evil guns that commited all those crimes. You mean to tell me an inanimate object held no mind control power, shocked truly shocked I am. Unless of course the evil of those guns was reincarnated into pointy objects. It can't possible be that bad people do bad things can it ?

Also speaking at the launch of the inquiry in Stockwell, south London, was Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes who said there had been a "dramatic shift" in the culture of knife crime.
A protest against knife crime in London in September 2008
Young people are helping to tackle the problem in their peer group

He said: "Knives were originally taken because they were seen as cool. Then they were taken because young people thought they were safe.

"But now what most people are doing is taking them because of fear. There has been a shift - we need people to realise that having them makes you much more likely to be a victim."

Heh, do people even listen to themselves? Are knives magnetic or something? Having one on you magically means you're going to be stabbed?

Don't we run into the same arguments here with guns? If you have a gun you're more likely to be killed by one?

Maybe if they took .01 seconds to think about it, they would realize that most who are carrying a knife/gun, who are killed by a knife/gun, are probably part of the criminal element. This is what makes them more likely to be stabbed/killed, not the mere presence of an inanimate object! Sheesh! Common sense ain't so common...

Dope

And it couldn't be that it's even easier now for bad people to overpower the sick and the weak because they lack a means of self-defense, could it?

It just goes to show you that people are basically aggressive, if you take away the guns, they will find another way. Knives work.

"But now what most people are doing is taking them because of fear. There has been a shift - we need people to realise that having them makes you much more likely to be a victim."

Fear? Panic buying of AR's here and panic carrying of knives in GB.

A Home Office spokesman said: "We are committed to tackling knife crime and getting knives off our streets.

"Since June we have invested £2 million in targeted action in 10 police force areas under the Tackling Knives Action Programme.

"Already this is delivering results - over 2,200 knives have been seized following targeted stop and search operations, and courts are getting tougher with offenders."

The searches would not go over real well here. Is it possible that people are carrying knives for protection as poor a method as it is. Why aren't the police protecting these people from evil knives? They got rid of the guns. Their world should be a utopia by now. Is it possible that it is just human nature?

We have to get those knives off the streets....

Plot summary:
Many, many people out there are stupid.
A few people are also aggressive.
Mixing stupid with aggressive an an environment lacking guns results in stabbings.
Thinking about human nature makes me depressed.

Their argument will be that it is easier to kill people with a firearm than a knife, especially large groups of people. So ban all the guns!

As far and warrantless searches go, it appears American's forgot why we succeeded from them over 200 years ago. It is all a trade off, the people just have to figure out what they want.

Thankful

To be an American and living in the USA! There is a reason why we formed our own country over 200 years ago.
