BBC Documentary on GRNC Filming at Fayetteville Gun Show Oct. 2&3

Come Out and Show Your Support of GRNC

The Oct. 2 & 3 Fayetteville gun show will be taking on new significance.
BBC Worldwide will be doing a rather lengthy piece on GRNC. They are doing
segments on American grass roots organizations and their importance to
politics in this country. GRNC will be their vehicle to cover the gun
issue.

We will need to look good for this show. We need to have a significant
number of people show up. Plenty of volunteers and lots of activity will
properly reflect the political machine that is GRNC. Let's show them the
organization and the power that makes the NC General Assembly sit up and
listen. Come on out and bring your friends.

Volunteers are needed. As we said, the BBC will be filming at this show.
We need plenty of volunteers to show the world that we are serious. To

I don't know about anyone else, but if a rabid-anti-gun-leftist-socialist- biased media bunch showed up at my gun show, I'd have to think real hard about not turning the dogs loose on 'em...
Seriously, I don't see any upside here, even if they offer you editing control(which they won't). You will be made out to be red-neck-wacko-gun-nuts who own 50mm death-dealing fully-automatic machine-gun revolvers capable of shooting down satellites and 747s. And that will just be the first 30 seconds of the edited tape.
Remember this is the same organization that thinks that Europeans should be allowed to vote in US elections. And that the UN really knows what an honest election looks like(hint, it's one where their selected, preferred candidate wins without killing too many of his opponents supporters).

Oh yeah, just in the unlikely case that anyone cares, I'm from the UK. I'm about the only pro-RKBA person in this country.

GRNC has been highly effective in influencing state legislators, and they are very media savvy. I have sent them off this thread, which I also posted on TFL.

My family came from around Dumfries many, many years ago. Good to see cousins here.

I've never seen anything good come of letting any camera inside a gunshow. Kinda like giving whiskey and car keys to young boys, y'know? (apologies to O'Rourke).

I've heard a few semi-balanced pieces on firearm rights from some of the mainstream US media sources. But I have *NEVER* heard anything remotely balanced on that issue from the BBC. I'd trust NPR before the BBC any day. I've heard hit-pieces from the BBC World Service on both US and South African gun ownership which were so biased they'd make Tom Diaz blush. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! Not only are they enemies, they have no interest in balanced coverage. You and I are not their market. We are like geeks at the circus to them.

Err.......sadly not, I'm afraid. I just turned 18 on Saturday, and as you can guess it's an absolute bugger to get a FAC Licence over here.

I am interested in Airsoft, but I have a hobby in studying what most of the 'softers call "real-steel" guns, so I do have a good reason to talk to the good people here.

I was cheering as much as anyone else when the AWB over in America expired.

The Username was more of a play on words. I'm in the UK, I like the 36K, so I put them together.

I've been looking at these boards for a while, but only registered on Sunday. I'm here to give a sane UK perspective, as oppose to the GCN's one. If you want me to tell you anything about over here, I'll be more than happy.

In in addition to the usual gunshow suspects, the BBC will be treated to copious quantities of America's finest grunts and ground pounders.

Gee, I wonder what kind of angle they could use for a story.

Better yet, maybe the BBC could wait a week to go to the Charlotte gun show where they would be treated to large numbers of bankers, stockbrokers, financial analysts, doctors, and <shiver> lawyers.

Then again that would be a difficult story line.

Welcome aboard. I agree with your assessment of the BBC regarding guns. For example, I've seen several bbc articles that used ten year out of date crime statistics from America in an attempt to demonize guns, and even using other erroneous statistical comparisons between London and European cities that were easily disproven, even using home office statistics. Their obvious bias isn't surprising, but lack of basic journalistic fact checking makes their integrity a joke.

I'm sure there are probably several dozen like minded people in your country Several pretty decently thinking people from the UK right here on this board in fact, so don't feel too overwhelmed. Also, if it makes you feel any better, I've noted that people who are in a distinct minority position on any issue tend to be better informed anyway. I think opposition sharpens your critical thinking skills.

Anyway, if you get to feeling too overwhelmed, consider emmigration. There must be 50 or a 100 million Mc's (including a lot of my family) here already) and another one who "gets it" would be more than welcome IMHO.

By the way, not to go off on too much of a tangent, but the BBC commonly refers to "40 million Irish-Americans" when trying to implicate the US as being almost wholly responsible for the IRA, but neglects to mention that the majority of those people are Scots decent unionists (I think they are properly called "Ulster Scots", but I may have that wrong).

p.s. The BBC commonly refers to the "powerful gun lobby" in a transparent attempt to make out that America's pro-gun (relatively speaking) sentiments are caused by some evil coporate cabal. Any of you who feel like spitting into the wind might try to explain to them that the "gun lobby" is 100 million or so American gun owners, rather than corporate entities who will always make plenty of money regardless of the laws.

I was there this morning, and ended up on camera at least once. There was quite a crowd of people around the GRNC table. Everyone from GRNC was well-dressed of course, and walking around the show I didn't see too many stereotypes-in-the-making. It was just about the smallest gun show I've ever been to.

There was just one guy with a camera from the BBC. He was taking a lot of shots of the GRNC people talking with show-goers and signing them up. He also paid a lot of attention to the AR-15 on the table that the GRNC was raffling off. So I'm sure they'll spin the "evil assault rifle" angle. I did my part, being there to show support, clean-cut and cleanly dressed.

Actually when I was on camera I was talking to Felix from GRNC about Oleg Volk and his website and images. They had a slideshow of some of his images running on a laptop on the table (I understand they had permission from Oleg to create and use the slideshow).

My comment is merely a literary device I use to make comments from the perspective of one side of an argument. In this case my comments reflect what I think a member of of the BBC would think of the military skills represented in the Fayetteville area.

I have the utmost respect for members of our military. The BBC does not.

Seriously, though, I usually only say "No comment, and no permission to use my image." to any media persons. I've seen too many highly editted spots to ever trust any major news outlets.
