Can anyone rate knives from Bear Cutlery Co., as to finish, blade steel, etc?
They are made in the U.S., but I haven't handled one.

I have 2. One is a pocket knife, in Damascus steel and is a nice peice for the price, sharpens well holds an edge and the beauty of Damascus other than the asthetic beauty is Damascus steel is still sharp when it doesn't feel sharp because of the micro serrations inherant in the steel. Second one is a Damascus Bowie, has a beautiful handle materiel of Stag and the Damascus steel blade which is kind of like the shape of the Buck Special which I love the shape of.

heres the bowie

Their factory is about 4 miles from my parents' home in Jacksonville, AL. I went to high school with the owner's kids. I would classify their products as more "production" than "custom". They do make higher end knives though. I also know a custom knifemaker that used to work there. If they have more guys with the amount of skill/talent that he has, I wouldn't hessitate to buy a higher end piece from them.

^^^Maybe there is something useful up there. The thread just caught my attention.

Good company with a clear dedication to producing quality knives at a reasonable price.

They were good enough that Victorinox bought them and then when the owners didn't like the changes in product lines they bought themselves back.
