Talked to the local AK builder the other day and I told him that I was not very happy with my AK-74 quad rail. He is the kind of guy that won't sell anything, but anything can be had for the right trade. So for some .45 and .40 brass, a box of gold dot .38 SPL+P, and my old quad rail I got a beautiful front handguard. I think I came out ahead :D

nice... I may be interested in some wood for an AK-74 I'm seriously wanting to build this year

I am currently refinishing the same piece. It had a lot of wood filler in a few dings when I picked it up and the previous stain really put some serious dark spots in the wood. After stripping and a lot of sanding and steel wool,it's beginning to look much better. I'll post a couple shots when finished. Didn't think to do before and after shots.

Looks great, but somewhat unnatural on an AK!

For anyone who wants nice AK wood furniture, I've used some of the stuff from Ironwood Designs with great results:

They make walnut and some other fancy stuff if you want it, or laminated birch if you want a more authentic look.
