I had heard of Becker knives, but had never owned one,or knew anything about the history of them until about a year and a half ago.A friend of mine held a wilderness skills campout in the Cherokee Nat Forest for members of another forum and Ethan Becker came by and invited us up to his compound on Half Moon ridge to engage in some log chopping contests and test out the prototype of the BK 14 Eskabar.

I have been back to Ethans place several times since and have learned a lot about his knives, the knife business, and what great folks him and his family are.Plus sent a bunch of lead downrange and learned a lot about camp cooking Ethan style.I plan on owning many more BK&T knives and highly recommend them.

No,hso I was not,Moose had invited me but work had to be done that weekend.I have seen the videos made that weekend of Jerry and Ethan can't say enough about the guy he calls"a national treasure".Wish I had been able to attend. On another note I have played around with the first two tweener models and they are gonna' be great little blades, the ones I used had a sabre grind, the production ones will be flat ground.

I've known Jerry for a few years and he can teach you more about knives in 3 hrs than most anyone else can in 3 days. Funny too.

+1 on Becker knives. Recently acquired a BK-2 of my own. What a beast. Can't complain about the price either.

And it doesn't take much forum surfing to find that Ethan & Co. support their products and their customers.

Welllllll, Ethan can't because the manufacturer is KaBar, but he's a big part of making sure customers and interested parties stay customers and interested parties.

I've had a Machax since the early 90s, it's cut a LOT of firewood for me over the years, and my brother's index finger once (he now knows what I mean when I say my knives are Sharp.) I've been well impressed with all of the Beckers I've had.

Since you guys have direct contact with him maybe suggest to him to suggest to the producers of his knives to stop using glass reinforced nylon for sheaths.

where did you get the orange scales? I wrapped mine with orange Para chord but would trade the chord for orange scales.

I have a BK7 and it is tremendous. I don't care much for their smaller knives but their big ones are tremendous. Their sheaths are crummy and need to be replaced with Kydex or Leather...I made a leather sheath for mine.

word

This thread coaxed me to play a little with bk14. had it stropped nice razor sharp cut up some fruit and what not. tested if the sheath effected it, yep still does :) some point I will get around to finishing a new one I started. still a handy little knife add cost of a new sheath to price though.

Right back atcha hso, good to meet you and your wonderful family. How could any knife nut not have a good time at Casa Half Moon Ridge,it is like an encyclopedia of American knives and makers. If me and Moose woulda' been able to scare up a few quail that morning it would have been a treat to see how Ethan would have cooked them.

would have cooked them

Rubbed in garlic and lemon zest with a little salt and pan cooked in butter or grilled on that Egg thing.

BTW, Ethan's new line of kitchen cutlery improve upon my favorite so that I'll be able to replace Old Faithful before the handle comes off. I think that folks will appreciate how comfortable they are to use.
