Bedding an injection-molded stock

I'd like to bed the factory synthetic injection-molded stock on my Remington 700, but have heard this is extremely difficult.

Is it true you can use acetone to rough up the plastic enough for the bedding compound to stick?

Also, in the Acraglas bedding kit that I purchased it reccomends taking a rasp or file and going to town on the inside of the stick in order to give the bedding compound a place to adhere.

Any suggestions?

never tried using acetone on those stocks...

i've had fair success using a dremel w/ a sanding drum to get the surface roughed up a little, then using a ball cutter to put gouges into the stock. the idea is to create mechanical locks. w/ the ball cutter, i can create a gouge, and then make it bigger underneath the initial opening, while keeping the opening a little smaller...

the key is mechanical locks.

however... the rifle won't tolerate a lot of in-n-out. look to walnut or fiberglass (mcmillan) to hold a good bedding job in place. you can usually pick up wood rem stocks for next to nothing... wood will outperform the plastic easily enough.

It's also a good idea to drill small pilot holes in the areas where bedding will be applied.

This forum has a lot of info about bedding a Mini 14, (I know your gun is a bolt action, but the bedding process is very similar) and many have successfully bedded the different "plastic" stocks.

PS. I don't think I would use the acetone. There are better ways to rough up the surface.

Okay I did some more reading and realized that the acetone is simply used to degrease the interior of the stock in order for the bedding matieral to stick.
