I'm interested to see everyone's before and after gun photos. Maybe you bought a weapon and added a few things or swapped a few things around, lets see it.

I'll go first

Possum,

Did you originally have a GG&G MAD BUIS? What made you change to the MaTech?

Chris,

Nice Saiga conversion. Did you do it yourself?

Walkalong,

What optic is that? One of the AimPoint commercial models?

ChrisinVA, Just curious, I get the whole shorter barrel, I could even accept the magazine changeover. What I cannot for the life of me understand, is the stock and grip. Nor can I believe it. I call BS. Unless you changed out the entire receiver, at which point you may as well have just not bought the saiga in the first place(why would you anyways).

ThrottleJockey,

What Chris has is a Saiga Conversion. Google it. Its real.

Interim (Saiga skeleton stock and scope):

After:

Converted to a standard AK trigger group, and installed a Romanian PSL stock on it. Replaced the forward swivel with a cut off Uncle Mike's machine screw swivel and mounted a Harris bipod.

OK, I just watched a video of the conversion. I take back what I said about BS. What I still don't get is WHY? With the cost, and the time involved, why not just get a WASR or some other model? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Why? Because the Saiga started at $350, and the trigger parts were $75 and the stock cost me $25 shipped and stained. WASR's were $450. Why? Because WASR's are unpredictable, ranging from great to pure crap. Why? Because it's a real Russian AK, made at the fully modernized Izhmash factory. Why? Ever seen another AK shoot 2 MOA? Then there's the widespread availability of non-corrosive .223 ammo, good mags available, and more. In the end, I paid the same price as a WASR, but put in a few hours of work and got something far better. Honestly, that's what it boils down to: spend a little bit of money and a few hours converting a Saiga, and it suddenly becomes the best AK you could have ever bought.

+1 Mike. The Saiga is far and away better than a WASR.

It's also not nearly as complicated or time-consuming to do the conversion as you might think. You're just grinding/drilling a couple of rivets out and screwing in a bullet guide, basically. Everything else drops right in.

Up until November, you could also get 'em preconverted for $500-550 if you didn't want to bother doing it yourself.

I paid $389 for each of my 2 Romanian wasr10s less than a year ago.NIB. They are both great! Without any conversions. I did however make some mods for personilization, to make them "mine". The "why" was initially for chris in va, but whatever. To each his own. Here is a link to an earlier thread with some pics of one of them before and after.

i did, i had both before i started and just first used the mad buis, and then i changed out. no real reason really, i think they are neat the ability to change range the way they do, but realistically since this is a personal ar and not a work gun i highly doubt that it would ever be used past 25yds.

also as being a person that likes to be different, everyone had the mad buis and arms sights, and at the time i put that on there, i didn't knwo anyone with ine of the ma techs.
