Beginner Crossbow?

My mother is looking to get into crossbows. What do I need to know for a beginner? She is looking to buy a low-cost crossbow. She keeps looking at some crossbows in Fingerhut magazine. But when I look at them they look cheap and brandless for something thats $130. So for something thats $130 can she get something better? Used if must. Just looking for something to see if this is something she wants to get into. So what should she keep in mind when buying a crossbow?

Side note: She has a hyneria (sp) so she should look at low lb. crossbows? Also this would just be for on the archery range. No hunting and such.

Same as a stick bow. Take her to an archery shop. The hernia may or may not affect her choice, but she'd be able to try a few. Shouldice Clinic, near Toronto, is the place to get the hernia fixed. No waiting for days to get fed again either. I was out of bed 2 hours after the surgery.
