I would like to get into competitive shooting.I have a p99 in .40 and an XD in .40.Which one would be better for me to use?I'm no expert shot but it looks like fun.

The obvious answer to me is try both. I'm not very familiar with the P99 (I've shot one once,) and only seen pictures of the XD so I can't quote chapter and verse on which class they'll fit in but I'm guessing they both qualify as SSP. If you shoot both of them well then trade off. If they'll both fit the same holster then shoot both in the same match, assuming the RO doesn't object.:)

Either pistol would be competitive in IDPA. The P99 in SSP or ESP and the XD in ESP. I would go with the P99 in SSP. The only reason being you will not be up against 1911's shooting 9mm/.38Super like you will be if in ESP.

Get yourself a decent holster and either one double or two single mag pouches. Plastic seems to be the way to go with Bladetech being the most popular. At least it was at the last Nats.

Go to www.idpa.com and find a club near you. Warning this stuff is fun and addicting. Do not think you need to practice. You do not. Every club I know welcomes new shooters with open arms.

If I had leather for both of them I'd try both. I use IDPA as a way to see how my different handguns work when I'm under pressure. You might want to start with the one you shoot best. Accuracy is good to have, particularly on the longer stages of the Classifier.

Thanks for the advice.I've never shot under any pressure so I'm curious to see how I do.Hope I don't embarass myself too badly.:D

I shoot the P99 better.I just wasn't sure how the different weapons classifications should affect my pistol choice.

Good move, IDPA is Loads O' Fun ;) As previously mentioned, either will make a good choice and really depend on you & the accessories you may or may not have for these guns. I would lean towards the P99 for the faster trigger, but from my experience w/ both guns, both are fun.
Now, go to the match w/ the strict intention of being safe & to have fun. After that, everything is gravy. My 1st match my only other goal was to not come in last. Have fun!
