aha, you know Duvel. Very nice :D
There are some other bad boys on the market here too, Latrappe quadruple for example is quite fun with 10% alcohol :p

seriously though, many euro-comments ARE deserved :p

Welcome to The High Road, chriske!

I'm not from Belgium and I haven't traveled there (yet?). However, I'm big fan of Lindemans Kriek-Lambic, and I once got to shake Eddy Merckx's hand. :)

Welcome Ya'll from the great Republic..........err ......... STATE of Texas. :D Come on in, sit a spell and have a cup of coffee. I believe that there is a fellow from Italy posting on the BP forum.

Välkommen!

Welcome!

I guess I´m not the only Swede here.. There is hope for my country too...

La Pistoletta... Varifrån är du? Själv bor jag i Umeå.

Fun to see more that there are more Europeans with sound values!

To all :
I really should thank all of you individually. Short of that,
a few quick reactions :

Boris Barowski : HSV Heist op den Berg

Cannonball888, Beatnik, buck00 (and others) : About that German-Belgian WW II -thing :

Actually anti-german feelings have always run very very deep indeed in my family.
The how & why of this would require my telling my family history , which I don't think is appropriate on this forum, but am willing to do on a personal basis if anyone should be genuinely intrested.
As for me, I see a world af difference between "anti-nazi" and
"anti-German" (being a nation, people or language) .

TallPine : Dutch, French, English, German, Russian I can deal with, but... Gaidhlig ? Oh, I understood the most important word, I think :
"Failte". Thanks !

Chriske, welcome aboard!!!!

I don't know if you've yet been told, but around here, it's customary for new belgian members to send a kilogram of Leonidas chocolate to all members with the word, "Shnook' in their screen names.

I'll be waiting patiently.:D

If you need to find a Leonidas shop, there's one across the street from the Spirit of '66 in Verviers.

Ok...kidding...kidding...I'm just kidding.

What are the gunshops like where you are?

not that many gun shops any more, and many of them are specialised in hunting gear. A lot of gun shop owners are retiring and there isn't always a successor. And the shops that do exist aren't the size of some american examples :p

I live 700 yards from a leonidas store, I might get some later today ^^

I'm living about 24km away from chriske, I just checked :)
are you chriske55 on a belgian forum ?

well, do we need an pan-European roll-call for THR members?

personally i been to Belgium once, and really liked the place (and sure i liked Belgian beer ;)). Looks like gun laws there are not that bad, as my friend there has a room full of live machine guns and military rifles and SMGs; he's also a president of local gun club ;)

the biggest problem at the moment is the waiting period.
you have to get an authorisation for pistols and semiautomatic rifles. (sport shooters with a licence (6 months to get that) and hunters can buy bolt action rifles and shotguns (not semi or pump) instantly)

The authorisation is handled by the province administration (something between county and state) and had a legal maximum of 4 months. In practice it can take 8 to 12 months to get the permit.

full auto is not allowed anymore

Welcome Chriske and all other europeans that have jojned a great forum. The laws may stink for you guys but you all have wonderful homelands and not everyone is lucky enough to have a second ammendment.:neener:

I visited Europe once a few years ago when my brother was stationed in Germany and we made it to Belgium, great chocolate and beer but a wierd fountain statue of a little boy peeing. It was strange as could be but hey who am I to judge look at the leftover globes from the Words Fair by my house, there pretty strange to.

Another Belgian reporting here ! Max Popenker, there's only one person I can think of in Belgium that fits your description - care to divulge his name ? If you're not comfortable with that, we can take this to PM...

Welcome! I've helped train a number of fine working dogs from Belgium. Great people. They're like the French but without the arrogance and like the Germans without the psychological issues.

And the beer is excellent. We even Belgian brew variations up here in Alaska. Here's my current favorite, get your a** to:

I'll add my welcome as well. Great to have such a far-flung kinship. Cheers!

maybe you all should organise a "HRAWW" (High Road American Welcome Weekend) where us Europeans get together and take a trip to the US of A, hosted by High Road members :p so we can see how things are on your side of the ocean

I'd participate. Let me know what you want to do (besides shooting, of course).

Welcome to our sort-of-under-control blog chriske!

I was privileged to enjoy several hunts at the Chateau du Stree during the late '80s.

Now I make certain that my nephews learn about the wonderful beers you folks brew!

Waidmannsheil!

Welcome, I'm impressed I didn't think other than a token international I didn't think there was that many Europeans on THR, just shows the RKBA still has a good chance of surviving or coming back stronger. I think the the Finnish and Swiss have some of the most loose gun laws in Europe. I think in Switzerland they allow owners with light paperwork troubles to own fully auto firearms after completing their mandatory military service. I'm admittedly naive of modern Europe, the ancient bit up till the 1900s and WWII I'm good on.

I've only been to Italy and got to see the Vatican. The only foreign firearm I've owned are a Rossi and Arcus which I have let go for better quality guns but I have certainly looked at FN handgun productions with an appreciative eye, do they make any 10mm.

So from the south, a fourth generation southerner welcomes you, can't think anyone has ever been able to say a negative thing about Belgians.

I'm in France. And have spen a bit of time in Mechlen..

There is also Hildo in the NL, who has the largest revolver I have ever seen, chambered for 45/70 govt.
