This may be a stupid question, but is a belly band holster a good option for people with big bellies? Does any of our more portly members have an experience trying them and have brands they could recommend?

Good question. I haven't given the belly band a second thought because.....well, I am overweight and it doesn't seem like that would work out.

Belly bands have very limited uses for anyone IMO. They are hot and uncomfortable.

At first thought it seems like a really bad idea for overweight, but being overweight also means my back will hurt from time to time. The idea of the belly holster for big people came from the fact that I have had to wear similar looking devices as a back brace for a bad back. Obviously different things for different uses, but similar enough to make me wonder

I have a moderately oversized belly and in my early attempts at carrying concealed tried a belly band. It lasted all of about 10 minutes and is only marginally more comfortable than the liquid-filled balloon I had to wear shoved up my nose after a broken cheekbone surgery. Especially if you live in a warm climate and tend to sweat, it is torture. It's easier to carry a small gun in a pocket and a larger gun in an IWB holster. I don't see any merit with the belly band unless you are going about wearing sweatpants or shorts without pockets or a belt.

As a thinner guy, I couldn't see how a Belly Band would really be of much use for a larger guy. I don't even wear mine around my midsection much anyway. I usually pull it high so that my gun is tucked in the area between where my shirt drapes from my shoulders to my waist.

I really do like the idea, but the cheap construction of many of them leaves a lot to be desired. I'm toying with making a similar rig out of leather.
