Has anyone used a belt clip on a revovler and if so does it work as well as it does on a pistol.

I have a taurus 617 357mag and was wondering how a belt clip would work on it.

all comments welcome...

They allow the gun to rock and roll in the belt, and that's not a good thing.

Get a real holster.
 
I know a guy who used a clip, and recently had an AD while carrying because the trigger is exposed to accidental pulling. The holster protects the trigger, preventing it from being pulled inadvertantly. Like David E said, get a HOLSTER.
 
dave and goodtime... I don't understand either one of your answers.

You first Dave.... I carry my guns inside my waist how is the gun going to, as you put it (rock & roll) when my belt is against it holding it in place.

goodtime how is the trigger exposed if its inside my pants.. only thing exposed are the grips...

I've carried pistols like this for yrs, never had a problem. I've just never carried a revolver this way.
 
The trigger isn't covered by anything when the gun is on a clip, whereas in a holster the whole trigger guard is covered by the holster. Even if you're carrying IWB, something can get caught on the trigger and cause a not so pretty hole in your leg.
 
I tried a ClipDraw on my revolver, and it basically sucked. It pulled my pants down when standing, and when sitting allowed my pistol to work it's way out of my pants. All in all a waste of $25 I could've spent on ammo.
 
Can't address the origional question regarding doing so with a "clip" on a revolver,...however, I have carried both the Keltec P3AT, and a Keltec P-11,... both with belt clips only, ...IWB, ....both with and with out a belt....for a few years,....and under a wide range of situations. Have never had one slip away, drop,..or give me any other problem. The P-11 gets a bit heavy on the britches without a belt,..but the little P3AT,...never an issue. BTW,..have never shot myself in the arse either.
 
Thunder173...I too carry my kel-tec 380 with the clip, have for yrs. Never the first problem.

But my Taurus 617/357mag weighs about twice what my 380 does and is about twice the width also. That why I was asking if anyone has worn the clip draw on a revolver that size before..

As for as the clip draw vs holster, I'm for the clip draw hands down, no one will change my mind on that.
 
Roger that Boom-Boom. Those that have never tried it and bemoan,..should try it.

Those that have tried it and don't like it or trust it,..shouldn't carry that way.

End of story...........
 
Ditto on what thunder173 posted.

Clip works very well on those, as far as a revolver, I don't know.

When I see a post about a S&W 66-4 2.5" barrel I'll let you know.

I'm interested also.
 
best use(and I cant think of many others) is if you just need to stuff a J in your pants quick, we have a 442 set up like that but only for around the farm or a quick trip to the store in skimply shorts:neener: not me but her:D

There is nothing to keep the gun from rocking forward or back due to everyday movements. It'll shift on the belt. The draw becomes, find gun, adjust gun, THEN draw.

A serious shooter uses a holster that allows a full firing grip at first contact and that is stable and consistent.

As for as the clip draw vs holster, I'm for the clip draw hands down, no one will change my mind on that.

Dave, the OP asked about using a clip on a revolver; he didn't ask whether a holster was better. You are the one who decided to change the thread to a "holster vs. clip" debate, so you obviously had the time to "waste".
For those of you still on the HR, and using ClipDraw clips, I'm interested in your feedback as well. I prefer a holster as well, but have one back-up piece for which I am unable to find (or fund!) a suitable IWB, LH-ed one. A ClipDraw might be applicable here for me.
Whose got one, and on what? Likes and dislikes? Thanks..

I've used something similar, a Barami Hip Grip. It worked, but I gave it up for two reasons. One, the gun is carried next to bare skin with only undershorts for an intervening boundary; a blued gun is likely to rust rapidly if you perspire very much. (The gun I used it on, a S&W 640, was stainless, so I didn't have that problem.) Two, it was a miserable thing to actually shoot as it was cut to the dimensions of the grip frame, duplicating the old style "splinter" grips that used to come on those J-frames. A grip adapter might have helped this.
 
Same question

I arrived at this thread after doing a search on clip draw. I have the same question as BOOM BOOM. I've carried concealed for almost 40 years daily. The most often carried and the most convenent, was a s&w 36 3" with rubber grips, IWB, held in place with my belt riding between the grips and the cylinder, it worked. The 36 was givin to one of my daughters about 10 years ago. (I went glock). I just recently bought a 3'' ruger sp101 and I'm thinking clipdraw, because it's heaver than the little smith and the factory grips (which I like alot) are a little smaller the those I had on the smith. I've wasted alot of money on holsters and would like to see more response to BOOM BOOM's question
