Today I shot trap out at a family friend's of ours farm. As usual, I brought out my 870. And as usual, I did mediocre. After a couple of rounds, someone grabbed my shotgun so I grabbed the last one on the table, a Benelli M1 Super 90. I kid you not after that, I was hitting almost every single bird. It just felt so natural to point. I liked the shorter barrel and the higher rib. Essentially, I fell in love. I thought it was an HK shotgun, because it had HK markings on the side. The owner said HK imported these Benelli's before Benelli USA was made. Any more info on these shotguns?

I've decided I HAVE to have one. After a quick look on gun broker there aren't much, and most are around $1,000. Is this a normal price? How hard are they to find?

My dad got lucky at a gunshow about two months ago. Picked up one for $850, came with two stocks, two barrels and the mag extension.

This is a newer one though. Not sure about the one you described imported through HK.

Hope I helped.

I have 2 of the older M-1's bought used. I've had them a few years, but paid $600 for one $700 for the other. They are by far the best guns I've ever owned. $1,000 seems high, last time I priced them I could get the newer version, M-2, for around $1200-$1300 new. But gun prices may have gone up a lot since I last priced them. I'd at least look at new M-2 prices. It might be worth the difference if it is that close.

Rhyno37, I was in your same shoes years ago. I was shooting bowling pins with my friend. He had a Benelli M1 Super 90 and I had a Remington 870 Wingmaster. Let's just say we could both clear those bowling pins faster with the Benelli. I was sold.

I should add I also have a Mossberg 500 and a 870 Police. If I had to keep just one shotgun, I'd keep the Benelli.

Let me say this. It is the only semi-auto I own that has never jammed. Ever. Period. No failures to feed, eject, light primer strikes, nothing. And when I say semi-auto, I mean pistols like my Glocks and rifles too have all failed at one time or another. Never my Benelli. And I've shot everything through it from birdshot, to 00 buck, to rifled slugs. And, no gas system to adjust.

It's fast shooting. Super fast.

My shotgun shooting friends all want to buy a Benelli like mine, but they never have the cash for it.

You might want to consider the Beretta 1201FP, it is a Benelli clone for less money, but it is discontinued.

You will definitely want to consider the Benelli M2. To me, the main advantage to this gun is the ComfortTech stock. I've fired the Benelli R1 rifle with this stock, and it works. IMHO, it is worth the money.

Get one, you will not be sorry.

My M1 Super 90 basically ended my shopping days for a new shotguns. I still occasionally carry an O/U but the Benelli is so good I have found nothing to top it. Personally I prefer it to the Montefeltro and the Super Black Eagle. I think mine has only jammed once, with a bad reload. I have a 24" barrel, which I like very much but which seems a bit hard to find.

Hitting clays is less to do with what shotgun you're using, and more to do with which one fits you.

I think that is the point everyone is making. The Benelli's point, balance and fit a wide variety of people better than most guns. Combined with a rugged, simple action design that is more relaible than anything else I've shot I think they are the best gun design out there.

There are lots of reliable guns out there, many are pumps, but the designers gave them the handling qualities of a fence post. FWIW, an 870 is one of the better pointing and handling pumps, and is actually a favorite of mine. The Benelli is just a bit lighter and easier pointing and has proven to be just as reliable. Plus it pumps by it self.

Throdgrain has it.

It's not so much the Benelli as the Benelli's fit. Still, if you like the gun that much, get one.

I've liked every Benelli I've shot, almost as much as the 870s....

It fit perfect. The higher rib and shorter barrel on the benelli I also liked much better. How does the M2 compare to the M1 in terms of fitment? Pretty much the same or different?
