I've been looking at getting a tactical style fun-gun when I turn 18, and I've decided that instead of getting something like an AR that I'm going to look at tactical shotguns. I whipped out my Benelli catalog and saw the M4 and decided getting that with the pistol grip and the magazine extension would be a load of fun.

But all they have available right now is that Limited Edition version with the lame non-collapsable stock and weird magazine add-on, and it costs way too much. Does anyone have an idea when the standard versions come out and how much they will cost? Benelli says the price will be announced late this year but I'm becoming doubtful.

Benelli parts are expensive. I know you may be able to get new stocks but it sucks having that useless ugly telestock laying around the house.

No idea when they will announce prices--Benelli-USA isn't the best company when it comes to PR. I was interested for a while, but not so much so anymore since it looks like SureFire won't be making a forend light for the M4.

Er, you do know that,

Pistol Grip + Extended Mag = Breaking Law

don't you?

You , know I guess I had an idea about that being the case with the AWB. I guess the mag extension wouldn't be such a big deal to have, except it would look dumb with that plunger that they have on there right now. Thanks for the heads-up on that, I'm not so well versed in the restrictions for those kinds of things.

Get yourself a used m1s90 with the straight stock and the long mag tube.
7 in the tube, 1 on the carrier and 1 in the tube=9.
No ghost ring sights; get the rifle sights.

Then go to www.3gungear.com and buy the 8 rd. elastic side saddle
and the 2 round holder.

Get 10 12ga. dummy round shells and practice your reloads.

You should check with the Department Of Justice in your state. In CA the M4 is sold with a plastic pistol grip stock. I called our DOJ and was told a semi-auto shotgun could have a pistol grip stock and a magazine extension as long as the total shot count (chamber + magazine) doesn't exceed 8 rounds. Again, give your DOJ a call.

The version of the Benelli M4 sold in California is the 11703 (number is found when clicking on specifications).

Rich you do realize that no matter what your state DOJ says the gun must conform to both state and federal regulations, correct?

dport, yes. Do you realize that some states have more restrictive laws than the Fed?

Rich

Yep, but what you're saying about CA law is less restrictive than the Feds, ie a PG and 8 rounds. IIRC the Feds only allow 5 and a PG.

Rich,

The 11703 has a 5 round capacity (total). What looks like a full length mag on the gun is not. From the magazine nut at the muzzle to about 6" back is a non-functioning extension that will allow the mag to clamp onto the barrel. There is an extension to replace this that will make the extension a fully functional magazine increasing capacity past 5 rounds but will require that the pistol grip be replace with a standard stock. Otherwise, against the law.

Pistol Grip + 5 rounds or less : OK
Standard Stock + greater than 5 rounds : OK
Pistol Grip + greater than 5 rounds : NOT OK

(semi auto)

Ok, thanks. I'll amend my suggestion, call your local ATF and local DOJ.

Looking forward to a sunset.

Rich

If I were you, I'd get the ghost ring sights INSTEAD of the rifle sights!
