I was looking at a Benelli Super Nova last night at the local Gander Mountain. First thing I noticed was that the rear sight appears to be made out of plastic. When the guns first came out I would swear that they used STEEL LPA sights. The sight looks the same but appears to be made of plastic. Am I mistaken or have they changed from the first guns steel sights to plastic?

Which Supernova is this, the one with ghost ring sights? I just bought one a few weekends ago and was sure my sights were steel. I'll go home and check tonight to make sure.

Yea, the one with ghost rings. It had a pistol grip configuration and was in some kind of ugly desert camo.

I would swear that the wings around the sight were plastic. The original LPAs I would swear were all steel.......Plastic is good for some things...sights NO, NADA, NEVER, NUNCA....even the Glocks plastic sights suck and everyone knows it.

The wings around the rear ghost ring are indeed plastic. The rest of the rear sight is metal. The front sight assembly is all metal.

The plastic is really thick, and honestly since it's just the protective wings, I can see plastic making a lot of sense. It's a bit more flexible than metal, so it can absorb some shocks without bending, plus it's lighter.

The original LPA's were all steel, wings and all. I think I will hunt up a first generation gun before they all disappear. Course the current exchange rate isn't doing us any favors either...... Thanks.
