I have considered another new shotty and the Nova has caught my attention especially with all the rave reviews. I would like to get the tactical model with ghost ring sights. Price tag is $299, is this a pretty normal price or should I look elswhere?

Thanks

$299 is a pretty good price. Thats actually a little bellow what I have seen lately. If you get the gun you won't be sorry. It's a very nice shotgun.

There are quite a few posts here about the Nova - did you try a search to dig up what the various opinions are?

I did a search and most people say that it's a good shotgun. I do have to agree with some posters about the rattling forearm, it's the one reason I have been waiting on getting one.

Yes, I agree...I looked at one at GM yesterday and the forearm rattling would annoy me. It looks well built though and most folks seem to agree its a good shooter.

If you shake it around yes it does a little. But if you're shooting or if your hand is on the foregrip, it does not.

took mine to the range for the first time yesterday

Nova SP (ghost rings), with mag extension; great deal off GunsAmerica. Haven't noticed any rattle.

Only added the recoil reducer (girly man), which seemed to make a big difference over the time I shot Chaim's Nova.

With the GR at mech zero, I kept Remington RR slugs in a 4" bullseye at 25 yards, offhand, at the local indoor range.

Holy cow, this thing shoots.

Will take it out to 50 yards in the future when I zero the .308 on an outdoor range.

Would I be a nut for trying to bag a whitetail with a "tactical" Nova?

Anyway, $299 new sounds just "OK." If it's not too late, I would check some of the online brokerages for good deals on a used one (I'm cheap that way).

I got mine barely used, including the ($50) mag extension and an Eagle detachable/covered buttstock shell holder, shipped from Tacoma WA to MD for $310 after talking the guy down (originally $310 plus $25 shipping). Then another $10 for my FFL, for a total of $320. (Another $75 for the girly-man recoil reducer & its mounting bracket.)

Otherwise it would have been:

$379 new (MD price)
$60 (mag extension, w/shipping)
$20 Eagle shell holder

My freezer can testify to the effectiveness of "Serious" shotguns on deer. Try different slugs and see what your Nova "Likes". My guess is you can get under 4" at 50 yards from the bench without major stress.

My Nova with sights set from the factory with Remington Reduced Recoil slugs does headshots on a silhouette with a bit of care, 3 or 4 in a row till there's no head left at 100 meters from the prone.

And people say slugs are inaccurate. :)

Nova, accuracy

Yesterday, I took my Nova to the range again to shoot some clay birds, 00 buck at some idpa silohouettes at 25 yards and slugs at 100 yards.

At 100 yards sitting on the ground, I shot 5 brenneke K.O. slugs at an IDPA target, 1st shot miss high over right shoulder, 2 and 3 shots were in the head (well centered), 4th and 5th shot were in the body center mass, the 2 head shots were more of a mistake as I let her recoil freely and got the high hits, the last two shots I held her a little tighter.

At 25 yards I can place any of the three brands of slugs I've been shooting anywhere I put that sight on. Knocking down bowling pins at 25 yards and hitting them laying down with slugs, easy. I am very impressed with this shotgun and might use her for deer this coming season, as most shots around here are 100 yards or less. I never thought that shotguns had such range and power, needless to say my eyes have been opened.

Regards,

Luis Leon

Yeah the first time I benched mine with slugs at 100 I aimed for the head "knowing" it'd drop and hit in the chest. Two shots, and checked the scope... two head shots. I thought it was a fluke so I aimed for the chest and hit where I aimed. Two more to the head to confirm it, and I was highly pleased... factory zeroed for 100 yards apparently.
