are the super blackeagle 2's worth it ! i mean for the money! i want one for goose hunting and already have a 1187 sp i use but the barrel is a little on the short side<26>

Oh yea!
(If you like getting the snot kicked out of you with goose loads!)

I sold mine after two turkey seasons because I wasn't smart enough to work the magazine cut-off do-dad in the dark when I set up, and kept shooting turkeys with an empty chamber.

Buy another barrel for your 1187, and save yourself close to a grand!

I would not pay the difference for the SBE because I do not plan to shoot 3 1/2" shells. If I wanted to shoot them That would be the gun I would pick. I have played ariound with the 3 1/2" shells in a 870 supermag as well as the Benelli Nova. I feel the recoil is tolerable with steel shot and a good recoil pad. I do not want a turkey or anything else bad enough to shoot 3 1/2" lead however. That stuff is brutal.

Unless there is some reason you just want another gun there is nothing wrong with the 11-87 or the 26" barrel in my opinion. I used that exact combonation for many years. I currently use either a Beretta 390 or Benelli M-1, both with 26" barrels. I started hunting with my grandfathers old SXS with 28" barrels and a repeater with 26" barrels gives me about the same feel. I never had any issues with the Remington and changed primarily because the other guns are lighter and pointed quicker for me. I do like the location of the bolt release better on the Beretta and Benelli as well.

It's only worth it if the SBE II fits you well.

That said, I think that if you're not happy with the 26'' 1187 barrel, you should get a longer one. Why do you feel your current barrel is on the short side?

They are absolutely worth it if you want a 3.5" auto. I once had an 11-87, and you couldn't give me another. If you want a 3" gun, I'd still go with a Benelli. FWIW, the SBE receiver is longer than most 3" autos, so you may still want a slightly shorter barrel than you otherwise would, to get the same OAL. My 24" SBE is about the same OAL as my 26" 870.
