Primer isn't staked like you see with a lot of Berdan primed stuff in brass cases. Luckily I use a Lee FL size die with a decapping pin that just pushes up instead of breaking/bending, but thought I'd throw it up as a caution for others.

No idea what brand it is. I've never seen the headstamp & can't tell what it is supposed to be other than the 223 REM part. Other than shining a light down into it, I don't know how you could tell by lust looking it is Berdan primed.

I thought all brass cased .223 w/o staked primers was Boxer - guess that was a bad assumption.

It is hard to see in the picture but Berdan primers is normally larger then Boxer. I usally notice them by just a quick glance but I don't always look.

I have broken 2 decapping pins coming across the same issue. Hits especially hard when you are trying to crank through a large portion of range brass and notnexpecting it!

Kind of hard to tell just by looking at them compared to boxer primed stuff but they are slightly larger. Not enough that I'd notice while sorting brass.

Another give away is Berdan normally have a sealant/adhesive that can be seen around the primer. Then of course looking at the flash holes.

I've seen plenty of sealant/adhesive on boxer primed military crimped brass too, though.
One prime example (pun intended) is, I have 100 PMC brass waiting to be sized/deprimed.
It has a very generous dollop of red sealant on it.
And I know for sure it's boxer primed as I've already processed 100 pcs.

I think that is the Barnaul headstamp. It is a very common headstamp on steel cased ammo. The OP's ammo may be a brass plated bi-metal case. Primer sealer is not an indication of berdan priming. FC and LC brass (in addition to PMC and other military contractor ammo manufacturers) have primer sealer - these are boxer primed.

I agree just saying if you see the sealer you might want to take a look.

yucky...

hopefully they're brass plated steel, that will mean the magnet test can sort them out easily.

Looks like they are made of steel ... check close look on the 2 of the middle you can see some grey color spots. did you tumbled them before resize ? No idea who made them

Hope this helps
