I am having an issue with my recently purchased beretta 1301 tactical shotgun. This was intended to be used for self defense and 3 gun competition . The oversize extended bolt release sticks out of the right side of the receiver. This bolt release serves multiple functions in addition to releasing the bolt it also releases shot shells from the magazine tube. So, if you push the oversize extended bolt release after the bolt is closed on a live round or otherwise , you get 1 shell on the cartridge lifter and a 2nd shell hanging part way out of the magazine tube. This jams up the works pretty well. Beretta says this is a feature , does any one here have the same issue ?

The purpose of this feature is that it is safer to unload the shotgun mag tube if you don't have to chamber each shell and then eject them.

The problem is if you are shooting around a barrier or wall and the right side of the receiver comes into contact with a hard surface , you will cause a double feed . If you activate the bolt release by mistake in the dark or while pulling the gun out of a rack, you get a double feed. I am more concerned about being able to shoot quickly rather than unload the magazine fast.

If your concern was simplicity of use then a pump shotgun was the gun of choice for you. The features you list may be OK for some but it my opinion they just give Mr. Murphy more stuff to mess with and play his silly games. Of course he does this at the most inopportune times such as when your life is on the line. The more stuff on a gun the less reliable it can be in a fight.

Your solution is simple. Keep that auto for three gun and find an inexpensive 870 or 500 for HD.

Thanks for posting this, I was in the market for the 1301 tactical. I don't want to learn a new manual of arms for one shotgun. I can see where you could fumble the operation under stress if this is not your primary weapon.

DOUBLEDTX, Baretta ownes Benelli, and I cannot understand why there is not an interupter to catch the next shell in the mag tube. I would contact Baretta directly.
