hello guys my father just told me that he is going to give me his beretta 390. it is an old sporting clays gun and he does not ever shoot it anymore.
I do not shoot sporting clays anymore either and I am interested in getting a slug barrel on it. It is an older Italian made model I believe from the late nineties. does anybody have any experience with a 390 slug gun or know anyone who has one and might be able to comment on it. I read an article before that they make very awesome and accurate slug guns. accuracy was the big thing in the article. and I'm pretty sure they make a rifled slug barrel for it and even one with a cantilever mount.
I know it's a rare guns especially rare as a slug gun I mean. most American sportsman just get a Remington or a Mossberg or something other than a beretta 390 when it comes to slug guns. thanks in advance and please excuse any typos.

You'll need to make sure you get the correct barrel for your version. IIRC, the 390 has at least two different barrel sizes.

Are you wanting a rifled BARREL, or do you mean a smoothbore with rifle sights?

I found another site that actually had it listed in their profile but also said "out of stock" Since the 390 is second generation discontinued, it is going to be tough to find. Not sure Beretta even makes them anymore. From their site:

JB39059

06144-3

12GA – 24” Barrel

3901 / 390 3” MC - not sure which number is theirs and which is Beretta's

Might try Gunbroker, auction arms, Guns America and maybe even Ebay

Hastings is/was a marketing company, like Charles Daly. Most of their barrels were actually made in France by Verney Carron - they have been around under that name for almost 200 years.

More than likely cheaper and certainly easier to just buy a 2nd gun. Especially if you look at one of the pump action slug guns.

it is terribly expensive and is nothing I would be in a hurry about doing and yes it does appear cheaper to buy a whole gun. I will probably just hang on to the Beretta and not convert it to a slug gun as I have browning bps 20 ga. and a Remington 1100 12 ga. Both with cantilevers and rifled barrels. Accutips are the ultimate out of both. I just always thought the 390 would be an awesome slug gun. and it would be a project or a goal to convert it all I need is a barrel and a good scope and good mounts.

I really appreciate everyone's replies and especially the searches you've done for me. I intend to Google deeply about this as soon as I can get away from working and school.

I was going to ask why you wanted 3 slug guns, but then I thought it would then be perfectly natural for you to ask me why have all those non-slug guns! You don't need a reason. Good luck.

I wouldn't do it since the Beretta slug barrels are so expensive and hard to find. I think this is an example of something that is "free" but ends up costing you a lot of money.
