I have an older Beretta 71 .22lr with the cross bolt safety. Occasionally, when I’m shooting, the magazine partially ejects, resulting in a jam. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve tried adjusting my grip to avoid the mag release with limited success. I really like this gun, but this issue results in me shooting the pistol less frequently. Any help would be appreciated.

How are you hitting the magazine release? Are the magazines damaged? Is the magazine catch damaged? Does it happen with all magazines or just some?

It occurs when I use a typical, two hand thumbs forward grip. I have 3 after market and one original magazine, and it happens with all of them intermittently. The Mag catch doesn’t look damaged, but I may have to take it to my gunsmith.

What part of your hand is on the mag release button? I have a 70 with the cross bolt and so have been trying to duplicate the issue but with no success so far.

One other question. Is it possible that your button is sticking out past the grip itself? Are the grips stock or aftermarket?

Original manual with pieces parts list.

Also, Jack First has all three pieces parts for the model 70 series magazine catch. Look at the image of the button and you will see the threaded part. Is it possible that your magazine button is partially unscrewed?
