I have a Beretta 70 .22 with a cross bolt safety. I love the gun but can't get used to the safety. I've seen Beretta 71s for sale on Gunbroker that have the standard 1911 style safety. They look like they are in good shape, EXCEPT a fake silencer permanently attached to the barrel. My question is whether I could swap out the Beretta 70 barrel and use it in the model 71? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would contact the seller to find out if any modifications were done to the pistol to fit the fake suppressor on it. Some Berettas had the front sight mounted on the slide while others, like my Model 70S, had it on the barrel with a corresponding slot cut into the slide to allow it to fit through there.

There are two reasons you can't really do what you want to do:

1. You can't take the barrel with the "silencer" out of the slide without first removing the "silencer" from the end of the barrel. Not a big problem, but it must be done.
2. The lower bit of the barrel of your cross-bolt safety gun is flat, while the version with the 1911-style safety has a stepped barrel base. They are not interchangeable.

Buy the one with the "silencer", remove it, get a thread protector for your now threaded barrel pistol, and then sell me your older M71 for a greatly discounted price for all the help I've provided.

Thanks for the help

I decided to sink my Beretta project money into a 2nd generation Ruger LCP, a spare magazine, and some .380 ammo.
