Where they tell me to go
I want to put a light on my early Beretta 92. It doesn't have rails so I need an adapter.

Looked at the Dawson Precision deal. Would rather not have to have a gunsmith do the work. Not thrilled about a rail that won't fit other stuff and drilling an Al frame just doesn't sit well with me.

Does anyone have the Insight Adapter? Impressions? Does it mark up the gun much? Is it tight?

Does anyone have the Surefire Light mount for the 92? Same questions.

Are there other options out there for adapters?

Leaning towards the Insight if it's good since I can snap the light on and off. Doesn't seem to be the case with the Surefire adapter, it seems much more in depth to put on/take off.

Any input would be great.

Thanks!

I have used the Insight Adapter on a Beretta. It locked up tight and I found it to be functional, though the switch was difficult to manipulate. I do not recall if it marked up the pistol. Normally I do not pay much attention to the finish but if it was excessive I am sure I would recall.

I have used a variety of Surefire Lights on a number of handguns but none were a Beretta. They too locked up tight. Same comments regarding the finish.

I much prefer the Surefire over Insights light but that has more to do with the Surefire's ability to better withstand the conditions I expose it to and the better switching options.

As I recall the Insights adapter was more difficult to put on and take of the weapon than the Surefire adapter. Both adapters interfered with using a holster designed for a gun without the light.

Blackhawk 6,
Thanks for the great input!

Skunk,
Hard to describe, rather flat along the botton with a small protrusion sticking out to the front, grooved almost flat front.

Need to pull it out of the safe and check the serial number tonight to see if the Insight mount will fit on it.

Does it have serrations in the front, aka 'combat' triggerguard?

Newer Berettas are like this and I suspect if it isn't of this type, it will be difficult to find a proper mount.
