Steyr Pistols and light mount options M6 + NEW M Series

Lately I have been trying to figure out a way to mount an Insight Technology M6 Tactical Illuminator on my Steyr Pistols. If you check out the Insight website you will see that they do have adapters for a few misc pistols. I think the thing to do is start a letter writing campaign to convince Insight that Steyr owners would like an adapter for mounting their lights. Since they already sell adapters I think it would be very easy for them to develop something to fit. Does this interest any of the other Steyr owners or is it just me???? I also thought about writing Steyr to ask if they could develop something that would work. Does anybody know what the Technical name for the rails that are on most new guns are called?? I can't remember what they are called.

I recently purchased one of your excellent M6 Tactical lights. I love the fact that fits so easily on to my SA XD40. I have had many fun hours of shooting at night testing out all the great functions of this wonderful light. The problem I am having is that I own a Steyr M40 that I would like to mount a light on. There are no attachments of any kind to be found for a Steyr handgun. I noticed that you did have an adapter for pistols such as the Beretta and Sig. I am wondering if you could possible look into developing an adapter for the Steyr line of pistols. I know quite a few Steyr gun owners who are all itching to get a light mounted on the front of their Steyr. I think insight would see increased sales of your lights and very brisk sales of the adapter. Thank you for you time.

EDIT********

I was just at the Steyr Website They have a new M series pistol they are releasing called the M-A1 Series

It looks like I answered a few of my questions by visiting the Steyr website. The raills are called "Picatinny" accoring to Steyr, and they are inlcuded in all future Steyr guns!!! I better start saving my pennies right now!! I would still like an adapter.

Might also want to contact Sidearmor, as they make Insight Adapters for H&K USP series pistols. In the mean time, I have an M40 and access to Rail Stock, so I'll see what can be done.

GG&G makes an adapter for the HK usp also. GG&G

I have looked into making an adapter myself. it may not be a good idea due to frame flexing. dont recall the pistol but it would jam. maybe it was glock not sure.

it could damage the polymer rails as well, probably wont take much weight without using the trigger guard. the frame area with rails was not designed well for that kind of use if you notice the pictures it looks like they beefed it up some. looks similar to S&W sigma VE.

though I would like to see someone make one and find out the results. only testing will tell and that wont happen till it gets made.

would further more like to add it may be best to save such an effort till steyr-club is up.

I myself would spend $50-$100 to get such an adapter. not to thrilled bout it gouging and scratching polymer frame.

Here is the reply I got back from Steyr.

Dear Mr. Walker,
thank you very much for your mail. It always a pleasure to read positive
things and not as usual any complains.
For your information we will have very soon our own Steyr Mannlicher of
America operational.
There is also an adapter with Picatinny rail available for our old M9 and
M40 pistols.
In a few weeks you will find the address of our new company on our web page
and if you wish you can place an order.

Thank you
best regards

I am planning on buying two mounts as well. I already have the M6 so I am pretty excited. I am going to have to buy one of the new pistols as well. I might buy just the frame. Frames for the current style are listed for sale at www.usasteyr.com for $110! That seems like a hell of deal to me.

ooh, i found it...however, are you sure that is the list price for the current style frame??/ or for the old M frame?

it should be for the M/S series and not MA1

MA1 will not be released for a while, not sure when could be after shotshow or could be when new US steyr building gets setup later this month.

yep schematic page M series frame $110.

Zund, that is what i am REALLY hoping for...I would love to just swap out my frame, and have what would seem like a whole new gun!!

Fixed

That price is for the old frame, but I can't see the new frame costing all that much more then the old. ----- Text deleted----

EDIT*************

Has anybody ever stripped down their Steyr until it was nothing but plastic. I am curious to know how hard this would be?? If just the frame was purchased it would be a considerable amount of work to get just the frame up and running. The next question is how much would it cost if to buy the complete frame with all the corresponding parts???? Anybody got a calculator handy????

It's not that hard, here is a link very good instructions given by our very own Courtland. The only problem I had was when I tried to "press the limited access lock into the frame (until the spring is completely compressed)" I couldn't get it in far enough to make it past the frame. If you encounter this problem take you finger and pull the trigger towards the business end of the gun and it will work. Sure makes it easy to clean. If the internals on the M-A1 match up to the M series it could be done in 30 minutes. Maybe we could get a bulk purchase thing going with the M-A1 frame.

I did figure out what it would cost to buy the frame and all the parts to go with it. It looked like it was abou $361 for everything with the current price list. The advantage would be that you could remove the slide from you current gun and use it on the new frame in 2 seconds.
