I have a question about a 92 that I am looking at in a local gun shop. Its stainless with houge rubber grips and in 100% mint, looks like never been fired condition. It also is one of the ones made in Italy with (2) 15 round mags. Whats the difference between the Italian and US made 92's? Are the Italian ones worth more? When did they stop making them over there and start making them here? Whats this one worth ?? Its MINT.

Frank

Anyone know a gun forum for Beretta firearms?

I'd say it's worth its weight in gold. What's the difference? None, but some say the finish is better quality than the U.S. made. Why did they stop making them -- money. It's just cheaper to set up shop here than make it in Italy and ship it here. However, the Bobcat, Tomcat, CX Storm, Cheetah, Cougar -- are still Italian made. The 92 Italian made is much sought after for ego, not really for anything else. We just want to own it. If you haven't bought that gun, don't hesistate -- and send it to the Beretta guru for work, Ernest Langdon at www.langdontactical.com

Hope to see you on the Beretta forum.

Mastro,

I think the decision to make in the U.S. had much more to do with the D.O.D. requirement that their official sidearm be manufactured in the U.S. Not until it was a requisite for the military contract, did Beretta consider moving any operations to America.

Why would they otherwise? The cost of shipping is insignificant compared to the lesser costs of labor almost anywhere else in the world, even Italy. Heck, if it were cost considerations, there are a lot of countries far less expensive than here. That is why all the other models are still made in italy.

I bought my 92F diring the transition period, making sure it was an Italian model, just for sentiment of having an original.

Having held both side by side, I could tell no difference. Lots of "oohs and ahhs" I read about Italian 92s, but my experience is limited with them. Mike
