Hi, I am looking at buying a stainless beretta 92 italian-made. The serial number is: L529xxx. Can anyone tell what year it was made by this code? Also, is $650 too much to pay for this? It is in like new condition. Thanks for any help!

Nice gun. TOO MUCH UMHO.

Offer $550 OTD. Prices really vary on your location.

Where are you located?

I'm in NJ where guns are extremely overpriced, and a new stainless 92FS can be had over here for a good $100 less than the price you're considering. Unless you live in an equally socialist peoples' republic state like mine, you should be able to do a good bit better than $650. Good Luck!

Edited to add: local NJ dealer just down the road has one in his shop NIB for $569.00

yes, but as i've mentioned the inox (or stainless as they say in english) has been discontinued as of 2006.

Base price for the 92FS is commonly 550, usually 50-100 more for the inox model, seen in the light of the recent discontinue I wouldn't call it a bad price, that's my rationale and i'm sticking to it.

I bought one from the used section at my local shop for $550 a few months ago, it was unfired and other than having to clean off the factory oil that had turned green from sitting so long, it was in 100% new/unfired condition with the original box, cleaning brushes and two factory stainless 15rd mags that had never even been loaded.

It’s a BC date code (1993) and the serial # is L47xxxZ, from what I here they stopped importing the 92FS in 1994 so my guess is yours is a 93-94 model.

The Italian 92's in like new condition have always commanded a premium especially if it’s an INOX (stainless) model.
With the combination of it being Italian, stainless 92's in general being discontinued and the 92FS being at the edge of being discontinued altogether, I expect that in the next few years the price will be a few hundred more than it is right now.

Maybe you've had different experiences, but IME, the prices on the Ozark Guns website were very inaccurate - if he could even get the gun at all. I called about 2 Rugers and both times he couldn't get the gun, and said even if he could, the prices were $40-$50 higher than what his website listed. He said the distributor sets prices and he can't know what it'll be until he orders the gun. Well then don't put definite prices on your site if you know they'll be wrong... just my opinion. :scrutiny:

Nice blaster at a fair price.

I have no experince with Ozark. Only posted to illustrate pricing.

Here is another $620 http://www.snipercountrypx.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idproduct=3034

Blue Book value, for what it's worth, on a PERFECT Inox model is $650. The next step down from perfect, 98%, puts it at $525. 95% condition is $415. (incidentally, the "last msrp" value the Blue Book has is $745).

So, for a used stainless 92FS, $650 is too much. Even if they've been discontinued.

Disclaimer: this is from the online Blue Book, which is the, uh...27th edition.

To find out how old

your Beretta is go to the BUSA web site and look for the FAQ´s. Italian made pistols have a 2 letter proofmark on the triggerguard that will tell you year of manufacture.

Stay safe!

Yeah, the Italian Inox 92fs' are great guns. I've had mine for many moon...the date code is BB making it vintage 1992. I bought mine almost 6 years ago and paid $550 for it...thought it was a little steep then, but I'm glad I did it now
In CA, and the right circumstances, $650 is the outer limit of what I'd pay for one today.

thanks for the input

All,
Thanks for all the input. You guys seem to really know what you're talking about. I actually went ahead and bought the pistol. Being that it is Italian-made, without plastic parts and possibly a straighter lock-up, couldn't pass it up. Can't wait to receive it and put some rounds through it. Anyway, thanks again!

Like the other posters have said, the Inox pistols will be harder to find. Finding an Italian will be even harder so.

I own a Beretta 92F that was made in Italy. There are several symbols located around the trigger gaurd area that you can look up on Beretta's website and it will tell you when your gun was manufactured. I found out mine was made in 1988 and was originally issued to the military. I bought it around 4 years ago and I paid $500 for it. It is well worth every penny I spent.

yeah, that's what i'm trying to say but that's it more succinctly.

The american factory has a annual capacity of around 110k 92FS type pistols (all variations, they use the same frame blanks), they just got a big order for 70k M9s from the US military so they'll be fulfilling that order over the next few years. Meanwhile there's also this new 90-TWO (they're in the process of deciding on a new snappier name), so the Beretta 96 and the Inox are discontinued so they can work on the military order. They can't say for certain whether or not these will come back when they have the capacity again (they know how we feel from Beretta Forum) but the new 90-TWO will be available in .40 initially so there's that and the PX4 if you want a fullsize .40 from Beretta. I don't know what direction the 92FS model is headed, it may become a legacy model focusing on the basic black M9 with fewer variations, we probably won't know until they see the consumer's response to the similar 90-TWO and they've fulfilled their recent M9 order.

Also in Beretta news we're still hearing about how the Beretta Cougar may come back under the Stoeger name from their new factory in Turkey. Which would be nice, seeing a Beretta .45 again (kind of).

I saw two Stoeger Cougar pistols in the shop today (8000 and 8040 copies). They looked exactly the same as their Beretta counterparts and were $349 each.

Where is this info from? I've seen references to it, but haven't seen the original source of the info. Just curious. (They really do need a different name.)

Anyone know if there are any plans for a "90-TWO", without a rail?

Thanks.

Great news there, the Beretta machinery they sent to Turkey should have the same quality provided they still have a skilled workforce. It's about time Beretta has something for the budget pistol market, sounds like it could go up against guns like the Ruger P95 at that price. Stoeger makes the budget Benellis, makes sense for them to make the budget Berettas as well.

One thing that always bothered me about the cougar was it either came in a version that was a bit long in the grip or a mini version that was a bit short in the grip. Later on they made a Cougar Type L and the Cougar L type P which had a redesigned slide and just the right amount of grip for a compact gun. I really hope to see some of those from Stoeger.

They had a naming contest on Beretta Forum, they didn't follow through for some reason (some of the names submitted were italian and perhaps it's difficult to come up with a single name that doesn't get lost in translation). I've heard of no plans for a 90-TWO sans rail. It has a very smart rail cover that keeps the rail nice and low drag for the holster.

Ah. Thanks.

Stoeger Cougar 8000

I thought I was seeing things. It just like a Baretta Cougar 8000 but its made in Turkey and says Stoeger on it.

Its heavy. In .40 and $329?

Anyone have any info on these?
