I own a Beretta 950 Jet fire- nice little gun that is in good working order, however, I do have two issues with it.

First, the finish is a matt black, not blued, and it has a lot of surface scratches on it.

I was wondering what my options would be for removing them. Can the gun be blued? Is there a cover-up, or spray paint to refinish it?

Secondly, I am having problems with the guns safety. It is extremely hard for me to move the safety lever. It should be able to be pushed with the thumb, but the darn thing just won’t move. I did get it into safety a few times, but I had to fight and struggle with it to do so. Any suggestions?

In closing, I really like this little Beretta, especially its feature; the flip up barrel. I wouldn’t mind buying another one in stainless, if they make any.

The Jetfire 950's been out of production for several years & I'm not aware of any stainless versions made.
The frame's alloy, can't be blued. The slide's steel & can be.
The safety can be addressed by a gunsmith if it's too stiff, or possibly squirting something like Breakfree into it could loosen it up.
It was never intended to be as easy to move as a 1911, in comparison.

The newer DA version is available in their Inox stainless, I believe, but it's not exactly the same gun.

Not trying to put the safety on with it uncocked or on half cock are you??
I don't remember for sure, I don't think you can.

I imagine some oil in all the right places would probably help a lot too.

I had one a long time ago. They are very relaible pistols. 9 shots to boot. I never used the safety as it's just too small. Just carry with the hammer down and cock it when you need to shoot.

Can anyone confirm/deny that this pistol has an interia firing pin?

Hi and thanks for your replies to my post. I am aware about only engaging the safety in the half, and fully cocked, positions. It is very hard to move the lever.

I may try squirting some Breakfree into it as recommended by DPRIS in his reply (#2) to my post.

The gun had not been used in many years, so maybe all it needs is some good lube etc. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll just carry it hammer down like 351 Winchester suggested.

It is a great little gun. I was going to give it to my wife to use, but I may just buy her something else instead.

For safety's sake I would sugguest a call to Beretta just to confirm that it would be safe carry with the hammer down. Just because I carried mine in that condition does not mean that it could discharge if dropped. I just don't know.

Good advice

Thanks for the advice, 351 Winchester. Smart thinking-better to be safe than sorry.:)

I sprayed on some break free and gave the gun a good general cleaning and oiling. It works much better now. After working the saftey a few times it seems to have freed up.
