My dad was in the Marines when the M9s were first introduced and were having catastrophic problems. He holds a grudge and might dis-own me

While I own and operate Taurus products, I just can't shake the cheap stigma they have in my mind. Beretta has been around since like 1526. I like the Taurus DAO operation for a pocket pistol but it also has a magazine disconnect and a manual safety!

I have owned both and I can tell you first hand that the Beretta is heads and shoulders above the Taurus. My 21A has been very reliable and is accurate enough to hit pop cans at 30-40'. It is the gun that the Taurus is trying to copy but couldn't quite get it right.

I had a PT-22 that I rank as one of the worst guns I have ever owned. Taurus PT-22, Tec-9, Kel-Tec P-32, Jennings J-22 and probably my new Tec-22 (if I can ever get it to work). All these are total junk and don't deserve a place in my collection.

The PT-22 looked good but it was totaly unreliable. I sent it to the factory two times at my cost to get it working and it did not get any better. I wonder if they even tried to fix it or if they just shipped it back to me. Anyway, it was also less accurate than the Beretta for some reason. It did have better sights but the trigger was not as good and it just didn't work. I wish I had bought the Beretta first but I had to buy the Taurus and then sell it at a huge lose. It is one of the guns I wish I had never bought.

The Beretta is a pretty nice little .22lr but it is not a target gun and is kind of fat but it is really small. It makes a nice fishing or backpacking gun when you might want to do a little plinking but for self defense, there are better choices that are not that much larger like the S&W lightweight snubbies.

The 21A is a fun gun and I will never sell mine. Go with the Beretta and leave the Taurus to the people that think a cheap copy is just as good.

I've shot a friend's older PT22. With it's favored ammo, it's 100% reliable. I ran Winchester dynapoints through it an experienced the ocasional failure to fire (always fired on second strike though). It was, however, very reliable in ejection and feeding. At 10yds, it would group a full mag into about 2".

I'd own one as a plinker. I think it would be fun to use against soda cans at camp.

That said, I really like the idea of a DA/SA trigger like the Beretta. That seems a bit more useful for "fun" shooting, but it's about $50 more expensive around here.

I'm very pleased with the bang/buck of all my Taurus guns but I voted Beretta 21 here because I don't generally like DAO guns. Maybe if Taurus made a PT22 that wasn't DAO I could change my mind, but I doubt it as the Beretta also looks better, the PT22 is kind of "blocky" for its small size.

Getting a small reliable .22LR auto is a crap shoot. It has been said that JMB couldn't get the reliability needed for SD in a .22LR so he invented the .25ACP to solve the problem.

My Model 21 is a fun plinker but its prone to mis-fires and quite ammo sensitive.

Don't have the web site in front of me, but a US Military Special Ops force uses and recommends Taurus PT22's as back-up/survival guns. They have not experienced any reliability problems with theirs, and they shoot them in less than ideal conditions. They also use these guns to collect small game when they are out in the field.
I wonder if there is a cut-off date for reliability problems with the PT22, or if our military just got lucky.
Anyway, thanks for the replies. Keep 'em comin'.

I've shot 92FS and small 0.380 berettas and was very pleased with the feel and accuracy. Beretta is also one of the most respected brands. I'd expect the 21A to be similarly good. No data on Taurus other than their tendency to imitate. I believe you get what you pay for.

My .22lr beretta is a joy to shoot, with no malfunction's and dead on accuracy. If their current models are up to par with my Model 71 Jaguar, then I would go with beretta. Lets just say if I had to choose between the Tarus or Beretta I would choose the Beretta since I have a good experence with them.

The Beretta is priced a little high for what it is, but it's not a bad gun. I prefer it simply b/c it has DA and SA. I don't find it to be any more accurate or reliable in feeding. I've owned both.

Brother bought the PT-22 great single shot pistol after that throw it. cause it will be jamed. Look in dictionary under SNS and will see picture of PT-22 .So you know what I and most people here voted for.The big B

Held both guns at the store yesterday. Beretta was smaller and had a better trigger.
Taurus had better sights, higher capacity, rounded (less snag-able) edges, and just felt better.
Will probably get the Beretta if I choose one, but not for sure.

I had a PT-22 and it was a terrible jammer. A friend had the Beretta and it was a jammer also.

It's a shame as they are nice packages. I can't believe they were tested at the factory.

I like the fact that the beretta is DA/SA. However, the bling of the gold accented ivory gripped stainless Taurus would go great with my pimp ensemble halloween costume. Right next to the tiger stripe Desert Eagle 50AE of course. :)
