Beretta CX4 40

I'm now looking at acquiring a longer range PDW. Since my wife and I both are 40 S&W types, I'm thinking that a carbine type weapon would make life easier.

I'm looking for feedback on the Beretta CX4 in 40.

Actually, if Steyr made anything like it - I'd be all over it. The AUG is just too much ($), and wrong caliber.

I have one, I think its pretty cool, I kryloned it in tan. I've added a grip pod vertical grip and a surefire 120 lumen weapon light. I keep it under my bed.

I've never had a malfunction with it, granted I've only put a few hundred rounds thru it. also the ability for you to switch sides with the controls including ejection makes a cool addition. with the iron sites I can keep all the rounds in a 4" circle standing at 25 meters so I think its a good house gun.

Fun trivia: The AUG can be converted to 9mm, thus making it the progenitor of the misbegotten race of 9mm bullpup rifles, including the converted tavor and the chinese Jian-She.

Why not rifle instead of CX4 Carbine?

I'm trying to avoid keeping lots of different calibers. For my HD weapons and just plain bug out weapons, I'm not planning on doing any long distance shooting. A 30.06 should take care of the latter nicely. I just want something for 20-100 yards with good accuracy. No 1" groups, just 3" will do nicely.

Storm=Good

My wife shot a Storm Carbine for the first time, and before the Mag was empty she informed me to buy her one ASAP. She is a very dedicated shotgunner, but she loved the light recoil of the Storm[ hers is 9mm], the lightweight and ease of handling. Also, she really likes the how easy it is for her to operate the surefire I mounted on the side. The Storm is great around the house.....she can easily operate iwth one hand if need be, and still hold the dogs on the lease, use the phone, open the door, etc. with the other. She is working hard on her handgun skills, but how easy the Storm Carbine is for her to handle and shoot accurately has been a real confidence builder for her.

It also fits in a tennis racket case and rides innocently on the passenger seat beside her nicely......

You've all been very helpful. I guess my next purchase will be the CX4 40 PX4. I found some 17 rd mags on Houts, so I can pack 68 rounds in 4 mags + 18 in the weapon. That should be sufficient for a really class firefight.

The high tech optics look tempting, but an EOS 552F is half the price of the weapon, and Aimpoint isn't much better.

If anyone has other suggestions let me know.

Someone will be along directly to inform you that you MUST get an AR in .40 instead. Then someone else will suggest the Hi-Point, and the SUB 2K.

(I'd like to know all the defects of all of them, this calls for a PCC mega-thread )

They're cool, but they've gotten very overpriced.
