One of the local shops had a Beretta master engraver over for the night. Basically to showcase work he's done and give you the chance to have something engraved by him. All I can say is WOW!, I usually don't like a ton of engraving but there was some pretty nice stuff he had done. Also the speed at which he would do it was amazing. Initials with tons of flare added on and around it in under 10 minutes. Just a neat thing to see.

Many folks who could be engravers go into better paying jobs, anapex, like Neurosurgery.

Engraving is quite an art. Some that I've seen is as high class as the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

What shop was this?

The shop was Bart's Sports World in Glen Burnie, at the Rt 3 and Rt 2 split. or if you're a technology geek like I am, near the Best Buy ;) . He had a lot of examples that were high class ones but I think the ones that impressed me the most were where he had a picture of a dog or person someone had sent in and the level of detail he would recreate it to on the side of the gun.

Bart's is a great place. The owner (Jack Bart) is a class act as is everyone that works there (that I've talked to so far).

How often do they have a Beretta engraver there? How much was he charging for the simple stuff?

Right now IMHO Bart's in one of the better shops in the area (Tied with Scott's). Their prices aren't too terribly higher then others for their standard stock and they always seem to get fresh things in more often then the others. That and I've had some real nice deals come in on used guns through them (remind me to bring the one BPS with me to PGC sometime Dave). Didn't check to see what the engraver was charging. I was at Best Buy to pick up some external harddrives for work (geek in me again) and noticed a lot more cars parked outside then normal (out in to the grass) so I just stopped in since I was curious. I woulda had something done if I had something decent on me for him to engrave. And no I don't think work would have liked an engraved lab on one of their drives! ;)
